Training a muscle group more than once a week is generally preferable for growth, and this split does that for every major muscle group without burning you out. Here is why the structure is set up this way. Legs go first on day one because they are your biggest muscle group and deserve the most energy and focus. Upper body follows on day two while you are still fresh. The rest day on day three sits between upper and the second leg day so your lower body has time to recover before you hit it again. Push and pull finish the week, hitting your chest, shoulders, triceps, back, and biceps a second time. The no more than three days in a row rule matters more than most people think. Training is stress on the body and the workout sends the signal to grow. Recovery is where the adaptation actually happens. Running four or five days straight without a break starts eating into your recovery and your performance drops. Two rest days built into the structure keeps you consistent without running yourself into the ground. The exercises for each day are straightforward. Legs means quad work like leg extensions, hamstring work like seated curls, glute work like hip thrusts, and calf raises. Upper means a press, a pull, a lateral raise, a curl, and a tricep extension. Push means chest press, shoulder press, and tricep extensions. Pull means lat pulldown, a row, and curls. One thing that matters more than anything else on this list: every working set needs to be taken close to failure. If you finish a set and feel like you had 5 or 6 reps left in the tank, it doesn’t count. Push to 1 or 2 reps from failure on every set and the program works. Cruise through it and nothing will change.
