Rhapsody in Blue on melodica 🔥 During an improvised cadenza in Gershwin’s masterpiece for piano and orchestra, young Japanese pianist Hayato Sumino surprised the audience at Classic FM Live by picking up his favourite plastic instrument – the melodica. He not only played the instrument, improvising on the American composer’s musical themes, but also accompanied himself with his other hand on the piano. This memorable moment was captured at Classic FM Live in April 2024, with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and conductor Ben Palmer.
