A smooth delivery to a secure rack position is critical for successful cleans. The bar and shoulders need to be close and have momentum continuing to bring them together. An active initial pull of the elbows up and out accelerates the body down and preserves more of the bar’s upward speed to achieve this—they don’t need to move up very high, but this gets everything moving in the right direction. Squeezing the shoulder blades together and pulling the bar up and back toward the shoulders brings the bar to you so the elbows can pivot quickly around it, and prevents having to lean forward to the bar so you’re able to sit into a strong, balanced squat. I’ve really been working on the timing at the top of my pull. You’ll see in one the timing is a little off so I have to kick my feet out and back as I receive the bar, the other one I’m more connected to the bar and finishing driving the bar up with my legs before I turnover. CLEAN WARMUP! This is what I do to warmup my clean every single time I do cleans or clean & jerks. It is a perfect primer to get your positions ready, and your body warm for any clean workout. What I love about this warmup, is you can really adjust it as you need depending on how you feel that day. You can add a couple more reps, or repeat one part if needed. For example, on days I’m feeling particularly stiff and can’t feel my movement, I do each part twice before moving on to the next one!
