Boris Cherny, the creator of Claude Code at Anthropic, recently predicted that the "software engineer" job title will begin to fade as early as 2026. According to Cherny, the traditional role is shifting because: Coding is "Practically Solved": He claims that for him, writing code manually is already a thing of the past and expects this to soon be the case for everyone, regardless of their domain. Blurring Professional Lines: At Anthropic, coding has become a general skill rather than a specialized job; product managers, designers, and even finance personnel now write code using AI tools. New Roles Emerge: He suggests the title may be replaced by broader terms like "builder" or "product manager," with a focus on defining specifications and solving user problems rather than manual syntax. Anthropic's CPO confirms Claude writes 100% of their code—including itself. The breakthrough isn't just generation, it's trust: Claude reviews its own code adversarially, catches security flaws, and re-architects systems that hit walls. They prompt it to be a "super tough grader," and it pays down tech debt in days instead of months. What seemed crazy a year ago is now their entire workflow. #coding #aicommunity #innovation #futuretech

Anthropic introduced Remote Control inside Claude Code. What it actually does: • Keeps compute on your local machine • Lets you manage your AI agent remotely • Removes traditional SSH/VPN friction • Enables persistent AI workflows The real shift isn’t mobility. It’s moving from coder → operator. #Anthropic #ClaudeCode #AIAgents #DeveloperTools #AIWorkflow

AI writes 100% of the code at Anthropic? I thought that headline was fake. The head of Claude Code, Boris Cherny, said that at Anthropic, AI now writes 100 percent of his code. My first reaction was skepticism. Because first, Boris, you are the head of Claude Code. Why are you writing pull requests at all? But then I actually looked into Claude Code. Apparently Boris was the only engineer on the team for a long time. Then in July, a second engineer, Sid, joined. By November last year, the team had grown to around ten engineers. With a team of 10, building a large scale product, the story changes. This doesn’t mean that AI is replacing all engineers. It is that the shape of the work changed. The engineers are not spending most of their time typing lines of code anymore. They are spending time reviewing generated code. ↳ Thinking through system design. ↳ Defining constraints. ↳ Writing careful, thoughtful prompts. ↳ Deciding what should exist in the first place. That is still engineering. Just a different allocation of effort. I made a full long-form video breaking this down best practices for ai coding workflow. In the age of #Claude Code from Anthropic, #OpenAI Codex, and other coding #Agents, the process of code *generation* becomes almost trivial. However that does *not* mean that the generated code is automagically: 1️⃣ Of high enough quality to push to customer and/or 2️⃣ Creates any business value This raises two interesting and interrelated questions for AI Forward companies - Does collapsing the velocity of code generation actually improve the Idea->Production cycle time (i.e. should coding agents be the default way for code-gen)? and If coding agents actually create more code merge requests then what does the rest of the “SDLC” look like? and are coding agents just moving the bottleneck elsewhere? Different folks are trying different ways of answering both these questions - check for instance this interesting note
