I started coding on @codecademy in 2019 and now they’re supporting me and my content 🥹 thank you Codecademy for sponsoring this reel! Here is my guide to learn programming at home (from someone who actually did it lol): 1. Figure out what you want to learn and do Web development, data science, embedded systems, cyberSec - pick an area to start. Try to work backwards from the type of work you see yourself doing in the future. If you’re unsure, you can start by learning the fundamentals of computer science because you‘ll apply it in all areas. 2. Have a long term vision, a medium term plan and a daily schedule Be flexible but disciplined. A dream without a plan is just a dream, not a goal :) 3. Invest in online courses if you can, it will save you time. There is a lot of noise on the internet. A good course can accelerate your learning by weeks. I personally used these 3 codecademy courses and they helped me a lot, saved me time and eliminated decision fatigue. 4. Try to get hands-on experience as soon as you know the basics. Work on a bigger, more challenging project by yourself or with others. It can be something for you, for someone else or an open source contribution. I started by doing the Codecademy portfolio project, and then contributed to EdgeSheet with my friends. 5. Learn data structures and algorithms only after you’ve become comfortable and proficient with programming. Make sure to dive deep into the topic at least once, including how all the data structures and algorithms work under the hood. Feel free to ask questions in the comments ☺️💻 save this post for later! #computerscience #learntocode #codecademy #webdevelopment #learnprogramming #datascience #fullstack #backenddevelopment

#ad In March 2019, I decided to start learning how to code while I was working full time as a graduate aerospace engineer. After doing the free parts of the Intro to JavaScript course on Codecademy, I decided to invest in myself and purchase the annual Pro subscription, which gave me access to all the content. Over the next 8 months, I promised myself I would focus hard on learning programming. Fun fact: because I spent the money on the subscription, it made me take it even more seriously so I could get that ROI lol These were the courses I did: 🔸Web Development Career Path, a 300h course covering all the basics of full stack web dev (it’s now called the Full-Stack Software Engineer Career Path) 🔸parts of the data Science Career Path, another approx. 300h course covering all the data science basics, including Python, statistics and the most common ML algorithms I knew I wanted to code and build stuff, but I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to do Backend, Frontend, Full-stack, or even become a Data Scientist. So I tried out several things, and ended up enjoying full-stack development most because it gave me the skills to build complete systems that me and other people could use. E.g. one of the coolest projects I built with Codecademy was a local web server to create spotify playlists with a react frontend and a node.js backend. After learning all the basics, I went on to build my own project and learn how to apply these things at scale. I eventually shifted careers and became a Software Engineer, and I’m very fond of Codecademy because it reminds me of how it all started. When you’re new to programming, you don’t even know what you don’t know or where to start. I like Codecademy courses because they’re well organized, the modules build on top of each other, the explanations are thorough, and the hands-on projects are useful. If you’re looking for a way to start, I can recommend codecademy from personal experience. They have 35% off the Pro sub until 20th Jan with code NEWYEAR22 so go for it if you’re interested!" 🤓☺️ #learnprogramming #learntocode #codecademy #softwareengineer #programming #developerdiaries #codinglife #codingisfun #informatik #fullstack
