OpenAI just launched the Codex app. Codex is a desktop AI coding agent that runs locally, understands your full codebase, and works across files, commands, and multi-step engineering workflows. What really differentiates it are Skills and Automations. Skills let you package repeatable engineering workflows so Codex can reliably follow a process across projects and teams. Automations let Codex run scheduled agent tasks like scanning commits for bugs, summarizing Git activity, or drafting release notes on its own. This is not just about writing code faster.
