This piece has a special place in my heart. Started back in spring 2023, The Restaurant has been with me for 3 years, 2 moves, and a job transition. It was a challenge, and I had to shelve it and rework it many times before it came to fruition. Having lost the reference photo quite a while ago, this project really grew me as an artist by facing me with ever-changing transitions and phases. I am beyond excited to see this one in its new home! One of the coziest restaurants in Washington, DC has also quickly become one of our favorites. @mallarddc located off the busy 14th street brings a warm touch of Southern hospitality offering refined comfort food. The menu draws inspiration from the low-country of South Carolina, with duck being one of the focal points at Mallard. Chef Hamilton Johnson, a Charleston native whose deep roots and experience in some of his hometown’s most renowned restaurants shine through in every plate he serves. Beyond the food, Mallard feels like stepping into a story filled with personal memories and family tradition. The restaurant’s cozy interior is adorned with mementos from Chef Hamilton’s childhood and its name itself honors his father’s passion for carving duck decoys, many of which are displayed throughout the space.
