Composting made easy 🌱 I use a sprinkler valve in each corner of my raised garden boxes. I fill them with kitchen scraps and let the decomposers in my soil do the rest. Each corner becomes its own self-feeding compost system (it's actually called Vermicomposting) — no turning, no pile, no extra work. When one valve is full, I move to the next corner. It takes a couple of weeks to break down, so by the time I circle back, it’s ready for more scraps. ✨ Don’t overthink composting. Do what works for your garden and what’s easiest for your setup. No turning. No hauling. No waiting months for a pile to “finish.” Now I have ready-to-use compost in weeks. This is what changed everything for me: When food scraps go straight into the soil, they break down where the microbes, worms, and roots already live. The soil does the work. I just… get out of the way. I dig a small hole. I bury the scraps. I cover it back up. And I move on with my life. No smells. No pests. No half-rotted pile freezing all winter. Just richer soil, healthier plants, and beds that literally feed themselves. This is composting without the middleman. This is soil building in real time. This is what low-effort gardening actually looks like. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by compost rules, bins, ratios, or timelines, you’re not doing it wrong. You were just taught the hardest version first. I break down exactly how I do this, what I bury, where I bury it, and how it works in real backyard gardens. Comment COMPOST

Does this look like your compost bin? 👀 These problems are very common with home composting bins - but they’re also an easy fix! Got a stinky bin? ✅ Add in more dry material and mix and aerate the soil well - think newspaper, dry leaves or cardboard. Spot some ants or pests? 🪳🐀 ✅ Add in more ‘greens’ like fruit and veggie scraps, green garden clippings and a little water. Keep the lid closed and make sure the contents are damp like a wrung-out sponge. If you’re noticing signs of rats, put some wire mesh underneath your compost bin to keep them out. Nothing’s happening? 🥱 ✅ Add in more greens, give it a good mix and move your bin to a sunnier spot to activate the microbes! Still stuck? Repurpose your waste, feed and amend the soil, grow some veggies, and recycle a container all in one! And do it without spending a single dollar. This is the free version of our favorite way to compost in the garden. I installed this in my dad’s garden while visiting because he was just putting piles of compostables at the base of his plants which can attract unwanted pests. Digging a hole each night to bury scraps isn’t practical for him, so this was the perfect solution and he already had the container laying around. You may have seen our sprinkler valve box idea, which we love because it’s made of sturdy material intended to sit in the soil in the elements for decades, but this is something we used to do a few years ago in our CA garden to amend the terrible soil while repurposing our waste, and it’s so easy and accessible, anyone can compost. I found some worms locally well, digging a hole, so I collected them to add into the composter. It really is that simple and your bed will be filled with a very active soil biome! This is how we fixed very low quality soil that stunted our plants, on top of heavy clay bedrock. Although it’s a very easy and resourceful way to feed the soil with household waste, the biggest drawback is the containers will eventually warp a few years down the road, which is why we now use $6 sprinkler valve boxes. How to Turn Kitchen Waste into Powerful Fertilizer for Huge Cucumbers 🌱🥒 This simple method uses kitchen waste to naturally feed your plants and boost growth. Dig a deep hole in your garden. Add wood pieces at the bottom for drainage. Layer dry leaves on top. Add kitchen scraps (banana peels, eggshells, veggie waste). Cover everything with soil. Plant your cucumbers and add a support trellis. As the waste breaks down, it slowly feeds the plant, helping it grow stronger and produce more cucumbers naturally. #gardening #organicgardening #growyourown #composting #vegetablegarden
