Convex Layer- cut with the head-shape. In this case, cut 90° from the round with a light increase in elevation at the perimeter. Convex layers remove weight consistently from top to bottom, making it ideal for clients with thick hair who want movement, volume, and/or less weight. Or for clients with short low density who want to want volume all over, aka…granny Mae Mae. CONCAVE LAYER A stop motion haircut tutorial The Y Version. Support with a share or save. Even love in a comment.🫸🏼 • TECHNICAL BREAKDOWN • Cut one length in a V pattern. Hold the hair in a comb. If client has shoulders turn the head to front then back. Keep it all in even tension. Wide of time teeth for most control. • Elevate fringe to above the ear and see the guide from below. It creates an angle of the head shape using pivoting sections with a diagonal finger angle. Stationary guide, continue sections reach back of the ear. If hair is long it will be beyond head shape. • Making this a new guide, working to center, over direct all pivoting 1/2” sections to the back of the ear. Elevation remains diagonal and finger also remain diagonal. Every cut is made at one place. I know. Weird. But it flowed on its own with very little styling effort. But to make it move we did a ton of looks. • Round brush, flat iron and curling iron. There is approximately 50 pictures of each look. • Can you pick out the different tools? If your client asks you for a “90s layers” or “bold layers that stand out” try a convex shape that follows the shape of the head when you’re looking at your client from the side. To preserve length on the side and the back you can over direct to the center and extend the length past the occipital bone. Remember you are designing these haircuts so you can make any changes that you want! But convex shapes sit bold and full, so the layers will stand out for clients that want them to! In this haircut, my task was to form planes. I used vertical sections, as well as redirection from the highest points to the previous one. Thus, I managed to form a plane on the temporal, occipital and upper zones. On the temporal and occipital zones, I used grading in order to create a gradual accumulation of volume. And on the upper zone, I used layers. And as a result, we got such a design. For clarity, we made a 3D diagram, how would you rate this work?
