I’m so impressed with y’all 😭 I would be sitting over here wondering how people read 100+ books in a year and then I realized I’m just not a fast reader💀 Don’t get me wrong I read A LOT but that’s because I spend a ton of time reading, not because I’m fast🥲 Fast readers, tell me your secrets 👀

I never knew about this until my son pointed it out when we were reading together one day, he was like ‘mummy why are your eyes moving so fast’ 🙈 Then I started doing reading vlogs and filming myself reading for this page and I realised from watching them back my eyes go from side to side pretty quickly when I read 😅 I learned (through bookstagram!! 🫶🏻) that I have aphantasia which I think is one of the reasons I read so fast, because I don’t see images or characters or do any sort of world building in my mind when I read, I just literally absorb the words straight into my brain and somehow they make sense 🙈 I think I average out somewhere around 130-150 pages an hour when reading at a normal pace for me, depending on the book and my mood. If I go any faster - which I definitely do when it’s late and I’m exhausted but I just HAVE to know what happens next - then my retention drops sharply. And it’s already not great 🤭 I honestly read in the moment for the vibes and the vibes only - I only really remember the details for my absolute favourite books or books that I’ve read more than once. 😌 Everything else just seems to drop out my head as soon as I finish the last page ready for the next book to slot in. Is that just me orrrrrr?? Are you a fast, medium or slow reader? And do you remember the details of everything you read? 🎀

Are you a slow reader or a fast reader? I see a lot of folks who will comment on monthly wrap up videos about how many books they have read relative to the person in the video, and it’s usually expressing some sense of wishing they could read more, or read faster. I always encourage people to interact with books however it is fun for them, but I think it’s important to remember that this is a hobby, an escape, and while we get pressure to do more at every turn, it’s ok to read what you want at your own pace. #bookstagram #fastreader #slowreader #bookishthoughts
