In the Shadows became one of the most streamed rock songs of the 2000s and helped put Finnish rock on the global map. When it dropped in 2003 it didn’t just chart, it went massive across Europe, Asia and Latin America, something almost unheard of for a rock band from Finland. The Rasmus had been making music for years but this was the breakthrough. It mixed gothic rock energy with catchy melodies and that violin-like riff that everyone remembers. Fun fact: The Rasmus even recorded different versions of the video for Europe, the US and Finland, a rare move at the time that helped the song connect with different audiences and boosted its global impact. The music video also played a huge role in its success.
