You don’t have to go to the ocean to see beautiful fish. The colors of this male Gulf longear sunfish rival those of just about any fish you’d see along a coral reef. I found this guy frantically guarding his nest of eggs on the bottom of a city creek in Alabama. There’s plenty of beauty to find and protect in freshwater ecosystems all across the US. And maybe those “dirty” city creeks aren’t as dirty as we think - at least, they certainly don’t have to be. Full video on YouTube! [🌼] enjoying the nice spring weather . first time making a flower crown out of dandelions I found alongside the creek’s dirt paths, haven’t been able to visit the local creek as often as I used to but everything’s blooming so I had to take a look around :] P.S. make sure to be gentle with the stems, they can break easily if bent too rough (happened a lot lol) 🌱 . . #DIYcrafts #spring #printemps #outdoors #creeks

Our salmon are growing! They will be released into Des Moines Creek in May where they will continue into adulthood and hopefully one day return to lay new eggs. • • • • • • • • #SeaTac #KingCounty #fish #salmon #environment #conservation #outdoors #pnw #winter #reel #reels #titanic #fishlover #salmonlover #creek #rivers #creeks #nature #wildlife #publicworks

Have you ever seen a platypus before? Although naturally shy, platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) can be found in many lakes and waterways across Victoria. The best time to see a platypus is at dawn or dusk, so bring a pair of binoculars and time your visit to give yourself the best chance of success 🌅 If you’d like a chance to spot a platypus in the wild, head to: 📍 The Yarra River at Warrandyte State Park (Wurundjeri Country) 📍 Lake Elizabeth in the Great Otway National Park (Eastern Maar Country) 📍 Creeks and rivers in the Snowy River National Park (Gunaikurnai Country) and Alpine National Park (includes the traditional lands of the Taungurung and Gunaikurnai People) Platypus love freshwater rivers, creeks and lakes and their favourite places have muddy banks with lots of plants growing on them. You’ll never find a platypus swimming in polluted water, as they get sick when water isn’t healthy. Litter like fishing line can tangle around and harm platypus. Our rangers and friends care for this habitat by removing litter and planting shrubs near waterways. You can help by walking your dog on a leash and putting your rubbish in the bin. ⚠️ Nature being nature, sometimes conditions can change at short notice. Stay safe in Vic national parks, reserves and waterways. Before you travel, plan by visiting Parks Victoria for potential alerts or closures.

Providence Lake may be the most well-known water feature at Providence Park. But don’t shortchange the creeks that run through these picturesque 42 acres in the heart of Milton. In this video – captured by a wonderful resident after a rainy day last weekend – you can see and hear the proof. It shows the creek that runs along the top edge of the quarry, parallel to the Blue Trail. Even when the leaves fall leaving the trees bare, Milton parks are beautiful. And after it rains, places like Providence Park (and Lakhapani Preserve, with Lakhapani translating to "100,000 waters" for just this reason) really start flowing. #Parks #WinterBeauty #Creeks #Providence #MiltonGa

Northwest Arkansas is full of beautiful creeks and there are many that we have yet to explore! Here are a few that we’ve enjoyed. As always, use caution around water with your kids. The landscape and depths of creeks change constantly so I can’t confirm my experience will be the same as yours. Also, join “Arkansas Snake Identification” on Facebook so you can become better acquainted with venomous vs. non-venomous snakes. We don’t often see snakes but knowing more about them has greatly helped my peace of mind in regard to the safety of my kids. (All these descriptions are not going to fit in the caption so check the comments for the full list). 1). City Lake Park in Siloam Springs has a beautiful creek spot to swim in, but you have to be a little adventurous for this one. Once you park in the parking lot, find the big posted map and locate the “Enchanted Forest/Bridge/Boardwalk” area. Once you’ve walked to and found the sign for the Enchanted Forest, follow the path down. You’ll pass over a few two metal grate bridges, and then come up to a third wooden bridge. Instead of going up the third boardwalk bridge, take a left and follow the trail down to the creek. To get to the spot in the video, walk across the creek and follow the shore a little ways down. 2). Gulley Park in Fayetteville is a perfect creek/playground combo. It’s all very close to the parking lot, too :) The creek is located right next to the playground and you can’t miss it! 3). Coler Mountain Bike Preserve has MANY creek areas that are great to cool off in. We like to park at the South Preserve entrance and the creek basically follows the paved trail down to Airship Coffee - so you can take your pick where you want to play! 4). Blowing Springs in Bella Vista has a beautiful cool spring that my kids love to visit and it usually feels 20 degrees cooler there right by the cave. There are usually a few boats there to play with, too - or bring your own. For most direct access, use google maps and ask for directions to Gear Garden. That’s the correct parking lot to access the springs pictured in this video. #creeks #nwa #kids #family #northwestarkansas #summer #nwa
