🐍 HOW BIG IS DOLLY THE GIANT PYTHON? 🐍 We recently got hands-on with Dolly, our giant reticulated python, for a full health check—including updated measurements for the first time in years! As you can see, it took several keepers to safely hoist and support this massive snake during her exam. 💪🐍 The last time we measured her, Dolly was just over 16.5 feet long and weighed 139 pounds 😮 And that was five years ago… So the real question is 👀👇 👉 How big do you think she is now? RELEASING 27 BABY SNAKES! 🥰🐍 The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital incubated this large clutch of Coastal Carpet Pythons as mum was not able to stay on them. They hatched beautifully and were ready to rumble from the get go! Snakes are solitary animals from birth, meaning they learn to hunt, explore, drink and protect all on their own! A decent percentage of these babies will become food for birds, lizards, other snakes, foxes etc etc, and a bunch will hopefully live to adulthood! Enjoy!

The Room of Secrets😳 These reticulated pythons are giants and have incredible growth spurts, growing into some of the largest snakes in the world! It’s a powerful reminder of the commitment required to care for a species that can ultimately reach lengths of over 20 feet, as seen in this room full of our thriving snakes! 🐍🌟

More Judith questions! 🐍✨ “What is Judith’s morph? And do Burmese pythons come in morphs like some other snakes?” Judith is a 13-foot male albino green Burmese python. His coloration comes from a genetic mutation that prevents the production of melanin, known as albinism, along with another mutation that reduces his pattern, giving him a lighter, cleaner look compared to wild-type Burmese pythons. Albinism was one of the first genetic traits to become widespread in the reptile pet trade back in the 1980s, and it helped pave the way for the many color and pattern variations we see in captive Burmese pythons today. While they don’t have quite the same number of morphs as some other species, Burmese pythons absolutely do come in different genetic combinations that affect appearance. Remember the Coastal Carpet Python with the growth on its nose? Turns out it was just an abscess. After draining and antibiotics, I received a call today saying he’s ready to go back to the area he came from. I’m always super excited to get those calls. That’s a great outcome. As always, thank you to the amazing team at Australia Zoo Animal Hospital for helping this snake back to full health.

Judith the Burmese Python has officially moved into her brand-new home! Judith came to us about a year ago, but her habitat has been in the works long before she arrived. We built this enclosure to give her plenty of room to stretch, climb, and display natural behaviors safely and comfortably. Burmese pythons, like Judith, are native to Southeast Asia, where they are considered vulnerable in the wild due to habitat loss and overcollection for the pet and skin trade. However, in parts of the United States—particularly southern Florida—they’ve become an invasive species, thriving in the Everglades where they have few natural predators and can negatively impact native wildlife populations. These snakes are incredibly large animals, capable of reaching lengths over 15 feet and weighing more than a small child. They are powerful ambush predators and constrictors that require specialized care, very large enclosures, and significant food resources. Because of their size and potential ecological impact, Burmese pythons are not legal to own in some cities and states. Judith is 11 years old and now lives in a space built just for her — complete with reinforced rockwork, a filtered pond, climate-controlled lighting, and live plants for enrichment. She serves as one of our ambassador reptiles, helping guests learn about both the beauty and the responsibility that comes with caring for large species like hers. And she has an even bigger space coming! Luna is a lovely royal python that was in today for removal of a mass. Everything has gone well and she’s been discharged - let’s keep our fingers crossed for a good recovery 🤞 and also good results from the pathologist! In this video we are using a doppler to monitor her heart beat under the anaesthetic. You can hear her heart loud and clear. Luna is a colour morph called a spider, which is a morph associated with neurological problems. Luckily, her neurological signs are very mild. The owner has no plans to breed from her and enjoys keeping her as a pet snake. We can do lots of the same things for reptiles as we can for other veterinary species and we love seeing them here!! 🐍 🦎 🐢
