Project Phoebus, launched in 2010 was a massive collaboration between Wikimedia and Toulouse Museum France. Working with local volunteers, the project digitized over 2.5 million objects, including human artefacts, plants and animal specimens. The best part of the collection is the Lepidoptera - thousands of photos of butterflies and moths in incredible quality. After the success of my last video - I had to work with this collection again. This time, instead of zooming in, I zoomed out - using the different specimens as pieces of a grid. As I created 50 pre-compositions (using hundreds of unique images) in after effects and synced them to the music, I started to notice strange patterns emerging. To me, they look like lights blinking on analog synthesizers (I wonder if Radiohead would think the same?). While this was still pretty time consuming, this was a great project to learn AE with, definitely easier than last time. How cool would this be as concert visuals?? While in Germany it’s hard to find affordable data plans to use Internet on mobile devices 😁🥲 and network connectivity also needs a major improvement.
