🚆 Meet claustrophobia’s final boss: The Blue Line. On Tuesday, a disabled train forced hundreds of riders to be evacuated through the tunnels below Boston Harbor. The culprit? An over 50-year-old downed cable. Apparently, riders were trapped underground for over an hour before employees and first responders led them through the dark (and hot) tunnels to Aquarium station (which does NOT look fun). Is Newcastle secretly home to one of the most accessible transport networks in the UK? 🚆♿️ @my_metro The Tyne & Wear Metro connects Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and the coast, AND the whole network is step-free! The network includes stations with lifts and ramps, and the trains have recently been upgraded with sliding steps and four designated wheelchair bays. Staff can provide assistance if notified in advance, and fares are free or discounted with a Disabled Person’s Travel Pass. The one shown in the video is actually the old style of trains, so let us know if you would like us to head back and check out the new ones! So, was that good? 😁 Yesterday I was on a train with my wheelchair, for long travels I always have my wheelchair. We were towards the end of the line and there was no one else, it was the perfect time to do a wheelie 😂 I wasn’t sure it would work out perfectly, but I know I can manage my wheelchair in all circumstances and I know I could at least handle it safely! travel can be HARD as a disabled person! 😅 over the years I have been left on many trains & countless travel days have completely gone wrong I feel like that’s something you have to expect as a disabled person!
