Send this to someone who you know has to be informed about their working rights in Australia. #disabilitysupport #disabilityawareness #workinginaustralia #communitycare #disability

At 19 I was told support wouldn’t make a difference. Now I spend my time explaining why access changes outcomes. Support isn’t a favour. It’s infrastructure. Video Description: a clip of Chandy walking with text that reads "Soon after your 19th birthday while you are at uni someone will tell you you’d fail “with or without support” because of your disability." followed by a series of clips and images of me public speaking with text that reads "Now you educate people on disability rights."

This highlights an important reality in Australia: many people don’t disclose disability or neurodivergence, yet disability is far more common than we think. When hiring processes are rigid and built around one idea of what a “good worker” looks like, barriers are created before people even get a chance. For the 2.2 million disabled Australians wanting to work, these systems can quietly decide they’re “not fit” long before their skills are seen. This is a reminder that inclusion starts at the very beginning. Zelda is a staunch union advocate who has worked in disability for 13 years. Watch this video to learn how being a Disability Support Worker is “much more complicated than people think”. 💜🧡 These vital workers are all too often overlooked. The State and Federal government need to stop passing the buck and start meeting their moral obligations to vulnerable Australians who deserve dignity, respect, and quality of life. People with a learning disability want to work. They want to contribute, earn their own money, build confidence and be part of their communities. But too often, the support simply isn’t there to stay and thrive in work. Many people are turned away before they’re even given a chance or feel unwelcome in working environments because they aren't given the reasonable adjustments they need. Access to Work can be a lifeline. It helps fund the practical support and adjustments that make work possible from support workers, to accessible travel to specialist equipment that reduces anxiety and help people do their jobs well. Mencap Engagement Connector Sara Pickard spoke to BBC Radio Wales about why Access to Work is so vital for people with a learning disability. #learningdisability #accesstowork #inclusiveemployment #DisabilityRights Video description: Mencap Engagement Connector Sara Pickard speaks with James Williams on Radio Wales Breakfast. They discuss the importance of Access to Work and how the right employment support helps people with a learning disability find, stay in and thrive at work.

Watch the milestones they said wouldn’t happen. Watch the independence they thought was impossible. Watch the confidence grow when the right support walks beside someone instead of in front of them 🫶🏼 Disability isn’t a limitation. Low expectations are. We don’t measure progress against “normal.” We measure it against courage. Against effort. Against yesterday. And in 2026, we’re raising the standard again. For our clients. For their families. For an industry that should expect more. Because when you combine heart, advocacy, and the right support… limits start to look very small. This year? We’re not shrinking to fit the narrative. We’re building something bigger 🧡🤝🏼 2026 already feels good. #disabilitysupportbrisbane #supportworkersrock #supportworkersbrisbane #disabilityawareness #disabilitysupport
