From humble bait shop beginnings to a true Space Coast landmark, Dixie Crossroads has been serving up wild-caught seafood since the 1930s. But it wasn’t until January 1, 1983, that Rodney Thompson officially opened the seafood diner that would grow into the Titusville institution it is today ! At the time, rock shrimp were these small crustaceans that fishermen often discarded, they were largely overlooked in the area. That changed when Rodney and his family were the first to develop a machine to clean and broil them, revealing a rich, lobster-like flavor that quickly gained attention. This innovation not only transformed the way rock shrimp were viewed, but it also helped put Dixie Crossroads on the map, drawing in everyone from NASA engineers and astronauts to devoted seafood lovers from across the country. Today, the restaurant seats over 450 guests and still welcomes every table with its signature corn fritters, more than a million are served annually.
