I learned this game from a math coach when I was teaching first grade. It’s perfect for one kiddo and amazing for small groups as well. Follow for more simple play and learn ideas that you can set-up in 5 minutes or less. Put dots all over your paper. Roll the die. Circle that many dots. It’s subitizing. It’s counting. It’s visual-spatial skills. It’s all the things and it’s fun!

Play doesn’t always have to be with toys. You can connect in ways that are fun for you both! This game is dots to squares and it was a regular center activity in my classroom. It’s also great to keep in your toolkit for restaurants, doctor’s appointments and any time when you have a few minutes to spare! Make dots on your paper (I use a dot marker) but you can use a regular marker. Each person also needs a different color marker. Player one makes a line, connecting two dots. Then, player two goes and does the same. Keep switching off turns. If you close a box, write your initial in it. Keep going until all of the boxes are closed! I’ll show you ways to use this for learning activities tomorrow!

Who knew a dice and some dots could turn into a fun math game? 🎲 We tried this quick activity today: 1️⃣ Roll the die 2️⃣ Count the number 3️⃣ Circle that many dots Kids think it’s a game… but they’re secretly practicing math and focus! Simple. Fun. 2 minute prep. Parents — try this today and watch how excited they get to count! #LearningIsFun #KidsMathGame #ParentIdeas #simplekidsactivities

Rolling the dice 🎲 A simple play activity that helps children develop subitizing — recognizing numbers without counting, one dot at a time. Learning math through play 🤍

Fun numbers matching game 🌼👀 Draw a simple grid, add 1–6 dots in each square, write the numbers on clear magnets, and let them match away! 🤍 Hands-on learning that feels like play and wipes clean in seconds 🤩✨ #learningthroughplay

This one was definitely a challenge for my 3-year-old at first… but once she figured it out, she kept asking to do it again. And the best part? It took less than 2 minutes to prep. All you need is a piece of paper and some blocks! Through this simple activity, she’s working on: 🧠 problem-solving 🎯 spatial awareness ✋ fine motor skills 🔢 early math concepts (matching & counting) 👀 focus + perseverance Want to level it up? Add more squares, use different block sizes, or increase the number of blocks to recreate. 👉 Save & share for more easy-prep learning ideas! Some of the best learning activities are the simplest ones. Today the twins tried this DIY logic grid where they had to match shapes and symbols to place the correct tile. It looks like a small game… but it quietly builds: ✔️ Logical thinking ✔️ Focus ✔️ Problem solving ✔️ Visual discrimination And all it took was paper, a marker, and 5 minutes to make. Save this idea for your next playtime 🤍 #kidsactivities #playbasedlearning #momsofinstagram #learningthroughplay #kidsbrainboost

🎲 Flip, Find & Build! 🎲 Follow @learnwithkidscrafts for more. We had so much fun with one. Flip an UNO card (1-6) and match it by facing dice with the same number of dots! This engaging subitizing activity helps kids recognize number patterns instantly while strengthening visual perception, number sense, and fine motor skills. Plus, balancing the dice adds a fun STEM challenge to the mix! Sometimes the simplest games are doing the most behind the scenes. 🎲✨ Rolling a dice, counting the dots, and circling the matching group might look basic… but this little activity is building: ✔️ One-to-one correspondence ✔️ Early number sense ✔️ Visual discrimination ✔️ Fine motor control ✔️ Working memory ✔️ Impulse control That’s a LOT for one piece of paper and a dice. And the best part? It feels like a game. Not “school.” Not pressure. Just playful learning. If you ever wonder, “Is this actually helping?” — I promise you, yes. Preschoolers learn best through repetition, hands-on play, and small moments like this. You don’t need fancy materials. You just need intention. 💛 Save this for later and try it this week. #playbasedlearning #preschoolathome #earlymathskills #kindergartenreadiness #learnthroughplay

Most of us were taught that learning only “counts” if it happens on paper. But children learn best through doing, moving, observing, and thinking. This little game turned into a lesson in: • observation • sequencing • attention to detail • problem solving • friendly competition No worksheets. No pressure. Just meaningful learning. This is why I love incorporating hands-on tools into our homeschool rhythm. Learning should feel alive. Thank you @educationalinsights for gifting us this fun relay-race style math game. 🤎 Comment “PLAY” if you want the link to this game. 👉🏽 Save for later and share with another mom. #ad . . . #christianmom #learnthroughplay #earlylearningjourney homeeducator ad

Next time you play a number recognition game, try asking: 🩷 How many did you roll? 🧡Did you know straight away or did you count? 💚Can you show me that number on your fingers? 💜What number comes next? 🩵Is this one bigger or smaller than last time? Simple prompts = BIG number thinking ✨ You’re building subitising skills without them even realising it. Save this for your next play session! #playbasedlearning #toddleractivities #earlymaths #learningthroughplay #simpleplay
