How do I know which colors to use in a painting?� I don’t pick color schemes at random.� I start by asking these three things:� 1. What’s the subject?�The subject already decides a lot. � 2. What’s the story or motif?�The same subject can change color depending on context. For example, a mountain at night, daylight, or sunset will all require very different colors. 3. What’s the mood?�Want it more bold and dramatic? Use stronger contrast and clearer separation. �Want it calm and introspective?
