Presenting Dufferin School, it first opened in 1881 at the intersection of Patrick Street and Henry Avenue. Here are three interesting facts about the school - • Dufferin School is named after Lord Dufferin, the Canadian Governor General (1872-1878) who established the Governor General’s Academic medals (1872) awarded to the top students in Canadian educational institutions. • In 1937, Mary Walker Dobson, Dufferin’s principal at the time, received the King’s Coronation Medal for distinguished service to Manitoba education. Mary Walker Dobson worked in the Winnipeg School Division for 32 years. • Dufferin’s staff and students led a community initiative to build its first butterfly garden in 2013. Two of the park’s benches are dedicated to the teacher Premiss Rodriguez and her students’ vision for urban renewal. We’re truly sorry we can’t make it to the Dufferin Polar Plunge tomorrow, but we still wanted to show our support in our own way!
