3 Methods to help you get back to work ⬇️ Are you procrastinating getting back to work/studying by reading this post? I’ve got you! I don’t know about you, but whenever I have a lot of tasks on my to-do list, I can freeze and become overwhelmed by the thought of getting things done, instead of doing them. So here are 3 methods I use to help me get back to work, instead of procrastinating: 1️⃣5 Second Rule: I learned about this from Mel Robbins, but I love using this method for tasks that I’m dreading to start working on. I use it for when I need to get things done for work, but not necessarily enjoy, and it works every time. All you need to do is count down 5-4-3-2-1 before starting a task, and already be in motion to take action once you reach 1. Simply opening your laptop, or the document you’re working on will help you get momentum to start. 2️⃣3-2-1 Method: I applied from my favourite planning system that I developed for myself, it’s just adjusted. When I have a lot going on and need to prioritise tasks, I like to focus on 3 main tasks, work on each for 2 hours at the time, and finish them in 1 day. 3️⃣Task switching: this is for situations when you have to finish your work and do your chores because suddenly you’re an adult with responsibilities. I use this when working from home, and make my breaks productive between block of work by cleaning and doing house chores. 💬Have you tried any of these methods yourself? Save this for when you’ve made a mistake at work. If I was your career coach, these are things I’d be getting you to do and/or think about these 4 things: 1. Take a few deep breaths - I know your heart rate is going at 100 miles an hour right now, give yourself a moment to calm down. 2. Write down what happened - get it in order in your head, this isn’t about blame, it’s about getting the facts 3. Who do you need to tell - I know this feels scary but if people need to know, sooner rather than later is normally a good rule of thumb. Go and tell someone. 4. What can be done to fix it - it’s happened, you can’t change that, what you can do is focus on how to move forward Making mistakes at work is normal, we all do it - the CEO makes mistakes, the intern makes mistakes - it’s part of the journey. So if this is you, I know you are tempted to panic and try and hide it. We aren’t going to do that. Instead, my career advice would be to work through those 4 steps and start putting yourself back in control of this situation. You’ve got this.
