Sudden cardiac death explained !! SCD is defined as an unexpected death caused by loss of heart function that occurs within 1 hour of symptom onset. It is rapid, and often, there are no prior warning signs. 🔍 Why does it happen? (The Age Split) The cause usually depends on your age: 1️⃣ Under 35 Years (The "Electrical" Issues) In young adults, the heart's arteries are usually fine. The problem is often Genetic or Structural: HOCM: Thickening of the heart muscle. Channelopathies: Electrical faults like Long QT Syndrome. Anomalies: Birth defects in the coronary arteries. 2️⃣ Over 35 Years In older adults, the cause is overwhelmingly Ischemic Heart Disease: CAD: Blockages in the arteries (plaque rupture). Previous Heart Attacks: Old scar tissue disrupting electrical signals. 💡 The Takeaway: If you have a family history of unexplained sudden death, do not skip your cardiac screening.
