Capable of reaching, massive lengths of up to EIGHT FEET long and weigh in over forty five pounds!!! Feeding on fish, amphibians, mammals, and crustaceans, they will pray on just about anything under the sun, but to get it, they need to summon the power of lightning!!! Like their name infers Electric eels are one of few unique species of animals that can generate and disperse immense powers of electricity. Capable of filling its prey or potential predators with a shocking 860 volts temporarily paralyzing or even killing its victims this is one fish you definitely wouldn’t want to mess around with, so it’s a good thing they are easy to spot. Above this in the video you can see the electric eel swim right up to the surface, and this is exactly how you spot them in the wild every ten minutes or so you will see that breach and even hear a little gulp. This behavior is actually them breathing the air…. Cruising through the depths with is patterns on full display, this is one of my favourite fish in British Columbia! Yep that's right, Wolf Eels are in fact fish. Although we call them eels, you can see its pectoral fins as it glides along this rocky pinnacle unlike true eels that lack these appendages. There's nothing quite like the privilege of observing a Wolf Eel out of its den. This male looks as though it had been out hunting for a meal when it first swam up to us. After a breif hello, with a visibly full belly it was on its way elegantly moving through the dark depths back to its den.
