Post egg retrieval can be super uncomfortable. Especially for women with PCOS. It’s likely that you’re going to gain weight (I gained about 5-6 pounds in fluids) and you’re going to be sore. Remember the golden rule: water in is water out. Hydrate! And drink other things like electrolytes or Gatorade to help things move. #eggretrieval #ivftips #ivfjourney

We are pulling the trigger tonight on round four! 🥳 My follicles are looking great! Most are well over 16 mm, but I have a few at 10-14 mm. Hopefully, these will catch up in size by retrieval day. 🤞🏻 This round is starting to look a little similar to my second round of IVF. My ovaries have shifted, and as of this morning, it looked like it could be a little challenging to reach all of my follicles during retrieval. So, tomorrow (to add to the fun 🤪), I’ll be doing a bowel prep (similar to the one you’d do for a colonoscopy). Hopefully, this will make it easier to retrieve my eggs. 🙏🏻 I’m a little anxious. But I trust all will be well. I’m soooooo ready to get these eggies out. Has anyone done a bowel prep before retrieval? Egg Retrieval Results! 16 retrieved and 12 mature! 🙏 This was our second egg retrieval in this 3 back-to-back schedule we have going and we can’t believe it went so well. We got 7 mature eggs during our first cycle and if you remember, we were told we should expect to get 3! One more egg retrieval and then we can make the embryos! Today, I got my day one update from my egg retrieval yesterday! 10 mature. 7 fertilized. If you’ve been through IVF, you know how brutal attrition can be. You go from a number that feels full of promise… to one that feels smaller with each update. But today, I’m choosing to focus on what I do have. I’m grateful for every one of those 7 embryos growing right now. I’m holding onto hope as we wait to see how many make it to blast and through PGTA testing. 🤞🙏 One day, one step, one update at a time. Egg retrieval is sold as a procedure. A step in the process. Something you go in for, come out of, and then wait. What they don’t fully prepare you for is what it actually looks like on the other side of it. Watching Eleanor come round after each retrieval, seeing what her body had just been through, the discomfort, the exhaustion, the way she’d try to reassure me she was fine when she clearly wasn’t, that never got easier. Not once. And I think that’s the part that doesn’t get talked about enough from the partner’s side. You are not going through it physically. But you are watching someone you love go through something really hard, round after round, and there is almost nothing you can do except be there. That helplessness has a weight to it. You want to fix it. You want to take some of it from her. You want to do something useful. And mostly you just sit there and hold her hand and tell her she’s incredible, because she is, and because it’s the only thing you have. Eleanor went through this more times than anyone should have to. Every single time she got back up and did it again. Okay, I know this is going to be a controversial take. Mostly because everyone’s experience is SO different, which means there’s going to be women out there who think I’m crazy for this take. And I get it. I’ve read about people’s experiences with IVF and trying to conceive a million times, rolled my eyes, and thought: “Must be nice.” Because, as a girlie who’s been trying for 3 years and had multiple pregnancy losses… I just really get it. That being said, I was super surprised about this when I did my egg retrieval: (Don’t get mad at me!!!) I really didn’t find the whole process that bad at all. Now let me explain! First of all, I don’t LIKE needles or shots by any means, but I don’t have a phobia of them. So that definitely helps. Plus, my wife did them for me- rather than me injecting myself, which felt better imo. Secondly, and here’s the real kicker… I think part of the reason my experience was so pleasant was because I’d heard so many horror stories before that I was truly prepared for the worst pain and overall horrible few weeks of my life. Look, it wasn’t ENJOYABLE. But I would definitely do it again (even though I freaking hope I don’t have to, because I hope we have a healthy baby soon…but that’s another story altogether). I made sure to clear my calander and just take it super super slow during that time. I ate really good home cooked food, and just stayed really gentle with myself. Before I knew it- the retrieval happened, and I had my life back. Just wanted to share my story in case you’re thinking about freezing eggs or embryo but too scared. Day 6 post egg retrieval update 🧫💉 Out of our 2 embryos, 1 made it to the blastocyst stage. This embryo has been frozen & biopsied and sent to genetic testing. Will find out in 2-3 weeks on results.
