Proper embedding of small biopsies is essential to obtain good quality sections and ensure accurate diagnosis. After tissue processing, the biopsy should be carefully transferred to the embedding mold. The tissue must be oriented correctly, with the epithelial or cutting surface placed downwards and flat against the base of the mold. Small biopsies should be aligned in a single line and should not overlap or scatter. Using forceps, gentle pressure should be applied to keep the tissue flat and properly oriented, avoiding folding or curling. Excess wax should be avoided, and the tissue should be completely surrounded by paraffin. Correct embedding ensures uniform sectioning during microtomy, reduces tissue loss, and improves microscopic interpretation.
