Invasive Burmese python swallowing a blue heron in Florida. The Florida Everglades have been dealing with the growing threat of invasive species like Burmese pythons for some time now. The pythons are taking over the land and ultimately killing so many of the native species. This growing problem is of major concern for the preservation efforts of the historic wetlands. . . . . 431 PYTHON EGGS REMOVED this season! 8 NESTS!! 🐍🥚 Go watch our new YouTube video on it out now! As Kyle said in the last post, we not only surpassed our record of 131 python eggs removed, but we more than TRIPLED our efforts from last year!! Which is so rewarding for us considering the literal years of research, time, energy, blood and sweat we’ve put into figuring this out. We feel strongly that this strategy is especially effective in managing these invasive species. To put it into perspective, the amount of eggs we removed this season is more than the amount of pythons we’ve removed over 5 years. Please, if you think this is cool and want to see more, go watch our latest YouTube video all about our first 2 nests of the season 🐍👐🏼🥚 #TheCritterCult #jointhecult

Florida scientists witnessed a Burmese python swallowing full-sized deer whole 👀🐍 #OnlyinFlorida By the time they got to the scene, the python had already swallowed about half of the 77-lb deer, and it took about 30 more minutes for the 15-ft female python to consume the other half. Researchers in the region recently proved that Burmese pythons are able to stretch their jaws wide enough to swallow large prey, such as fully grown deer and alligators whole. Burmese pythons are one of the most concerning invasive species in the region. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), severe declines in mammal populations throughout Everglades National Park have been linked to the species. A study found that populations of raccoons had declined 99.3%, opossum populations declined 98.9%, and bobcats 87.5% since 1997. Other mammals have “effectively disappeared” over time, such as marsh rabbits, cottontail rabbits and foxes, according to the USGS. Deer are also primary prey for Florida panthers so this is a major concern for the endangered species. 📍 Florida Everglades Tag us in your Florida videos to get reposted! This is a Labyrinth morph of the Invasive Burmese Python, found here in South Florida. This is the only known morph of Burmese Python found to be wild reproducing in the Everglades, this color variation only makes up about 3% of the population. #snake #snakecatcher #soflo #everglades #florida #snakewrangler #wildlife #invasivespecies #snakehunter #invasive #species #python #PythonInvasion #invasivesnake

Southwest Florida remains one of the few places in the United States where endangered Florida panthers still roam through neighborhoods, golf corridors, preserves, and the suburban edges of Collier County. Naples sits directly between critical habitat zones linked to Big Cypress National Preserve, Picayune Strand restoration lands, and the western Everglades, creating a corridor where native predators occasionally cross residential streets while tracking prey. Green iguanas, now widespread in Naples, Marco Island, and coastal communities, compete for vegetation, dig aggressively along seawalls, and thrive in warm microclimates created by urban development. Their rapid population growth has reshaped local ecosystems, drawing attention from wildlife biologists and residents who witness these reptiles in parks, canals, and backyards. Florida panthers remain a conservation priority, with fewer than 200 estimated in the wild. Collier County records some of the highest sighting densities due to the patchwork of preserves, drainage canals, and undeveloped land that funnels wildlife movement into narrow travel routes. Encounters often occur near speed limit zones, powerline easements, and open residential stretches where animals cut across pavement while moving between shaded cover and hunting areas. The presence of an apex predator near iguanas highlights the layered ecological story unfolding across Southwest Florida. Native predators track scent, movement, and opportunity, while invasive species thrive in human-altered environments. Naples continues to experience rising interest in local wildlife as residents and visitors share clips that capture the region’s unique blend of coastal suburbia and raw wilderness. Florida wildlife organizations emphasize habitat protection, responsible driving in known panther zones, and increased awareness of the role these predators play in maintaining ecological balance. #NaplesFlorida #Florida

I think we found the 20 footer’s nest 🐍😳 We found 113 eggs total in this hatched out python nest from last year. By the size of the nest this mama python was HUGE. For reference - @kyletheguy ‘s record weight 215lb python with the Conservancy of SWFL also has the current record amount of eggs - 122!!! It’s so important that we are removing these invasive pythons from the ecosystem - especially the big females that can produce an insane amount of offspring.
