Daniel Naroditsky (November 9, 1995 – October 19, 2025) was an American chess grandmaster, author, commentator, and educator who died unexpectedly at the age of 29. He was a prominent and popular figure in the chess world, known for his insightful commentary, educational content, and engaging livestreams under the nickname "Danya".  Career and Achievements Grandmaster Title: Naroditsky earned the prestigious Grandmaster title, the highest in chess apart from World Champion, in 2013 at the age of 18. Junior Success: He was a child prodigy who won the Under-12 section of the World Youth Chess Championship in 2007 and the U.S. Junior Championship in 2013. Author and Educator: At just 14 years old, he published a book titled Mastering Positional Chess: Practical Lessons from a Junior World Champion. He later became a respected coach at the Charlotte Chess Center and had a large online following through his YouTube and Twitch channels. FIDE Rating: As of October 2025, his FIDE standard rating was 2619. He also excelled at blitz chess and was consistently ranked in the world's top 25 blitz players. Stanford Graduate: Naroditsky graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in history in 2019.  Passing Naroditsky passed away unexpectedly on October 19, 2025, just two weeks before his 30th birthday. His family announced the death in a statement released by the Charlotte Chess Center, asking for privacy.
