I’m 22, I’ve completed my MBA, and this is something I wish someone had explained to me clearly before I started. When I was deciding on colleges, I used to look at the highest packages and feel like everything would work out. But once you actually go through it, you realize the real game is not the highest package… it’s the average. For me, the way I started looking at it was simple. If the average package of the college is somewhere close to what you’re investing for those two years, then the ROI is practical. It’s manageable. You can recover, you can breathe, and you don’t feel stuck. But if the average package is much lower than what you’re spending, that’s when reality hits. Because the EMI doesn’t care about your expectations. Your expenses don’t adjust to your dreams. And another thing people don’t talk about the in-hand salary. What you see online is not what you actually live with. Once rent, food, travel, and other expenses come in, the number feels very different. I’m not saying an MBA is not worth it. It can absolutely change your life. If you want to calculate your ROI, comment “ROI” and I’ll send you the link. MBA won’t magically fix your life. And no Degree + Job + Success isn’t a guaranteed equation. That’s the biggest myth people walk in with. An MBA isn’t a golden ticket. It’s a testing ground. Two years where you: → Challenge everything you thought “success” looked like → Collaborate (and clash) with people unlike you → Fail, pivot, and learn faster than ever → Figure out what truly excites you (not just what sounds impressive) Most people chase an MBA for placements. But the ones who actually gain something deeper? They use it to understand themselves. Because placements give you a role. But self-awareness gives you direction. The degree might open doors But clarity decides which one you walk through. The real ROI of an MBA isn’t just salary. It’s knowing: → What you’re naturally good at → What kind of problems you want to solve → Where you’ll grow—not just survive If you walk in thinking, “this degree will fix everything,” you’ll walk out more confused. But if you treat it like a playground to explore, experiment, fail, and evolve… That’s when it actually changes your life. MBA is worth it. But only if you make it worth it. Two degrees I don’t usually recommend anymore: 1. MIM (Master’s in Management) 2. Business Analytics Why? Because MIM is just a cash cow degree in European universities and Business Analytics is quietly becoming what MBA became 3–4 years ago — overcrowded, overpromised, and under-delivering for many. Here’s what’s actually happening on the ground: • Too many grads with similar “dashboard + SQL + Python” profiles • Not enough roles that justify H1B sponsorship • Companies expecting prior experience for even entry-level analytics roles And when it comes to H1B? It’s simple. If the role is not critical enough, companies won’t file. Business Analytics often falls into that grey zone. This doesn’t mean the degree is useless. It means the way it’s being pursued is generic. And that’s the real risk. Meanwhile, I’m seeing students from more technical or niche programs: • Getting interviews faster • Converting roles that actually sponsor • Standing out with clearer skill depth So no, Business Analytics is no longer the shortcut to get into high tech industry. It’s usually a warning sign. In my latest YouTube video, I mention 7 degrees which are most impacted by in the NEW H1B Lottery system. It covers: • Which degrees are strongest for H1B right now • Which ones are becoming saturated (including Business Analytics) • Which ones still work — but only if done right • And how to think about your degree choice in 2025–26 Watch if you are looking for no BS study abroad advice - https://youtu.be/X4Xn_LSvmf8 Please watch and share your feedback! 1. The salary gap exists and it’s wider than most anticipate be it Tier 1,2 or 3 colleges You sit in the same classroom, give the same exams and yet one batchmate bags ₹35 LPA while another starts at ₹15 LPA! It’s not unfair since its based on a lot of choices-just not something that’s openly discussed. 2. Your Loan EMIs start before certainty does. You get the degree, the placement -but it can still take time to feel financially secure. Especially if you’re in a role with performance-linked pay or a longer ramp-up period. The pressure isn’t overwhelming, but it does exist quietly in the background. 3. Job titles and day-to-day roles don’t always match. “Product” may involve a lot of operations. “Consulting” could mean more Excel than strategy. “Marketing” might lean heavily towards sales. The roles are valuable ,just different from how they’re sometimes portrayed during B-school 4. You’re expected to function at full speed, even if you’re just starting out. Whether you’re a fresher or a career switcher, the learning curve can be steep. It’s not that the expectations are unfair ,they’re just fast-paced. There’s less handholding than many imagine, but also more room to grow if you’re proactive. 5. Corporate culture isn’t taught, it’s absorbed. No one gives you a manual for how to handle feedback, manage up, or align stakeholders. The transition from B-school to boardrooms can feel subtle but significant. It’s not toxic or dramatic just unspoken and deeply nuanced. And sometimes, even after getting the job, the title, the paycheck -you may still feel unsure. That doesn’t mean something’s wrong. It just means you’re still figuring it out. And honestly, so are most people! #hardtruth #realityofmba #mba #bschool #cat2025 #careers #corporate #9to5 #9tothrive #iims

Is doing an MBA really worth it? I’ve heard this question almost daily! There is no specific answer to this. Some people will come and tell you that doing an MBA is not worth it, while other people will tell you that MBA is the ultimate degree. My answer is that it depends on your goals and status. Around 90% of the people who are doing MBA said that they are doing it because they want to settle with good placement packages after it. That is their goal for doing an MBA. If you want something out of it, which could be anything like a handsome package, on-site learning, networking, a good degree, go for it. But if your goals are majorly towards going into the practical aspect of doing things and doing something else, then do that. If you are financially able to handle the expenses, then MBA can give you a lot of exposure. But at the same time, it should match your goals. My point here is that do not ever wait for people to come up and show you the way. There is no right and wrong way to do something. You make your own journey. It should satisfy you in the end. For knowing the pros and cons, definitely consult people who have experienced it. But do not go by their word. Do an analysis. Choose your own destination. Everyone gets the same degree, but not the same experience. 1. Start before day 1: Do a pre-MBA internship if you can. Stay updated on industry trends and practice speaking clearly. Push yourself slightly out of your comfort zone. 2. Get your contacts in place early: Reconnect with people needed for CV verification. The window is short and stressful, so sorting this early helps. 3. The real prep starts after you join: SIP prep, networking, CV building and interviews all begin together, and it gets overwhelming if you’re not ready for the pace. 4. Your CV keeps evolving: Every project, POR and competition adds up. What you do in the first few months quietly shapes most of your opportunities. 5. You cannot do everything: There is always more to do and people doing more. Learning what to ignore is just as important as what to pursue. 6. Time management becomes real: Sleep is not guaranteed and something is always overlapping. You learn very quickly how to prioritise under pressure. 7. Your health is not optional: The environment gets intense. I struggled with anxiety and felt overwhelmed at times, and that’s when you realise nothing is worth burning yourself out. 8. Confidence is often a facade: Everyone seems sorted and competitive, but most people are just figuring things out as they go. 9. Comparison is constant: You will see better CVs and better shortlists around you. It’s normal to feel it, just don’t let it define how you see yourself. 10. Do not believe everything you hear: There are many rumours about companies and processes. It helps to pause and form your own judgement. 11. You will find your people eventually: Before SIPs, everyone is focused and a little closed off. After that phase, things change and you find your real friends. 12. Prepare your body before the grind: Once SIP season starts, health takes a backseat. Having a basic routine helps you get through it without crashing. 13. Sort your personal life before you enter: Unclear relationships tend to surface at the worst time. Having clarity helps you handle pressure better. Save this for when things start feeling like a lot. #mba #catpreparation #bschool #fmsdelhi #placement
