Peak at Alton Bay. Get up there this week as the colors are looking great! Here’s some info and suggestions for a half day trip to Lake Winnipesaukee. 📍Alton Bay 📷🍁 📍Meredith (Clough Park, Mill Falls & Sculpture Walk) 📷🍁 📍Insta famous A Frame in the Lake @oliverlodgenh 📷🍁 📍Moulton Farm @moultonfarm 🍴🍩☕️🥗 🗓 Mid October The behind the scenes of one of my favorite fall shots from last year. Alton Bay is looking great right now and this is usually a good weekend to visit the lakes region and southern NH and get your own shot of this New England classic. My best advice is to go early in the morning on a windless or very calm day if you want the reflections. You can park at the Alton Bay Park and walk a few minutes to see these colorful houses on the inlet. The park itself offers nice views of the lake and other cabins that dot the waterfront. After visiting Alton Bay, head north 30 minutes to Meredith, a picture perfect town. You can take wonderful photos from Clough Park and shop the local stores. After getting your leaf peeping fill, head to Moulton Farm to enjoy lunch and the best cider donuts in New England. They make them fresh to order so be prepared for a little wait but it’s worth it! Finally, take your donuts and drive 10 minutes to check out the famous A Frame in the water in Meredith - the view is near the Y Landing Marina. Sandwich, Squam Lake and Ashland, each about 15-20 mins from Meredith. Personally, I think this half day trip os heaven on Earth. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again… Amherst is not for everyone. But if you love nature, more space and the idea of farm-fresh food being a 5-minute drive away, then you might have a problem. Here is what you “have to deal with” if you move to our little corner of the Pioneer Valley: 1️⃣ You get more land. We have deep lots with mature trees here. Whether it’s a classic colonial or a contemporary cabin, you aren’t living on top of your neighbors. it’s a massive breath of fresh air compared to being jammed in. 2️⃣ That “College-Town” energy.You get the intellectual hum of UMass and Amherst College without all the big-city grit. It is the kind of place where the local bookstore and the coffee shop are the true hubs of the neighborhood. 3️⃣ Farm-to-Table is real here. We don’t just have “organic options”. We have Farmer’s Markets and CSA-shares that actually change how you eat. You are basically living in the pantry of Massachusetts. 4️⃣ The trail-access is a lifestyle. Between Amethyst Brook and the Rail-Trail, your backyard basically extends for miles. If you are a runner or just like to walk the dog, this is the spot. 5️⃣ People Stay. Amherst isn’t really a “starter-town.” Once people settle into the rhythm of the seasons here, they don’t really want to leave which is exactly why the demand is always so-high. 7️⃣ You’re gonna want a mudroom. In New-England, the “main-event” is surviving mud-season. Forget a pool, a good entryway here is worth its weight in gold. 7️⃣ You are 2-3 hours from 6 states If you ever feel the need to get out of the woods, you are basically the center of the map. You can be in the mountains, at the coast or in a major-city within a few-hours. 8️⃣ There’s a “come-as-you-are” vibe. Amherst is an inclusive spot where being a little different is basically the norm. It’s the kind of place where people actually care about being welcoming and making sure there is a seat for everyone at the table. So yeah… don’t say I didn’t warn you.
