Playing / 53. . The original movement I saw of this was just rotating from one side to the other while staying in a plank. It looked interesting to try. However, it wasn’t as difficult as I imagined it to be. So I put a little spin on it to make it more challenging. . I decided to add a couple of reps of active Copenhagen plank on each side as well as holding a single leg neck plank. For the most part, it was challenging in terms of balancing and controlling the rotation. Strength-wise, it wasn’t as demanding. . I’d love to be able to rotate 360, but rolling onto and holding a forehead plank is not something I can do without specific strength training. . . . . . #CoreStability #CoreStrength #CoreWorkout #Plank #HipMobility #NeckStrength

Here is a tighter breakdown of effective plank variations and why to include them: 1. Low plank for foundational stability. Builds core and shoulder stability under load. A great entry point, especially if you have wrist pain. Also works well as a warm-up to activate the core and prepare the shoulders. 2. Extended low plank for serratus and shoulder focus. Reaching forward shifts emphasis toward the shoulders and scapular stabilisers. Targets the serratus anterior, making it a strong addition to shoulder training. 3. High plank for wrist conditioning and scalability. Develops straight-arm strength and conditions the wrists. Easily scalable using low bars or bands, allowing it to become more strength-focused. 4. Superman plank for long-lever strength. Increases demand on the core and shoulders due to the longer lever. Helps build strength and control for extended positions like ab rollouts. 5. Yoga block variation for increased difficulty. Reduces stability and shifts more demand onto the core and shoulders. Useful as a progression and a good addition to handstand warm-ups. 6. One arm plank for anti-rotation strength. Adds unilateral demand and activates the obliques. Trains both anti-extension and anti-rotation, with carryover to one-arm push-up progressions. 7. One arm one leg plank for advanced stability. Further increases instability and challenges hip and core control. A solid progression once basic variations are mastered. 8. Side plank for lateral core strength. Targets the obliques and lateral chain. These areas are not fully addressed by regular planks, making it essential for balanced core development. 9. Copenhagen plank for adductors. Elevating one leg shifts focus to the inner thighs. Effective for adductor strength and lower body support. 10. Reverse plank for posterior chain and shoulder extension. Strengthens the glutes and hamstrings while training shoulder extension. Helps balance forward-dominant training. #planks #coretraining #calisthenics #bodyweighttraining
