Ive had a few similar questions and hope this helps to answer; I had an evisceration, which means the back part of my natural eye was left in place. An acrylic implant was then placed inside the socket, and the eye muscles were wrapped around that implant. This is what allows movement and gives the socket a fuller, more rounded appearance, even when I’m not wearing my prosthetic. My eye was very enlarged before surgery, which is why my implant is quite large. Because of that, the prosthetic that sits in front of it is very thin. When I’m not wearing it, it can look like there’s “almost an eye there,” just without the coloured part. Not everyone’s surgery is the same. Some people have the entire eye and muscles removed, often due to trauma or cancer, so their anatomy and movement may look different. My story is a little different, and I’ve shared more detail in a pinned post at the top of my page and in highlights if anyone wants to understand the journey more fully. Questions like this, asked with genuine curiosity and a desire to understand, are one of the reasons why I have this profile. I want to help open conversations, share information, and raise awareness around visible differences, eye loss and so much more. Thank you for asking, thank you for wanting to learn and than you for being here 💙 Video description: a close up of Hattie, a pale brunette, without her right eye in the socket, looking left, right, up and back to the camera, with an onscreen question from a comment in a previous video reads: Just curious, but is there no eye in that socket at all ?because it totally looks like an eye but it’s just missing the colored part I guess you would say #nystagmus #evisceration #prostheticeye #eyesurgery #ophthalmology

Staphyloma is the term for a thinning of the sclera in which the underlying pigmented tissue then adds its color to the thinned sclera, giving an appearance of bluish to almost black color. It occur in the front of the eye mostly as a response to trauma or infection in which the scleral architecture has been disturbed and the internal pressure of the eye stretches the weak point causing the protrusion and typical appearance.#artificialeye #prostheticeye #rehabilitación #evisceration #lostconfidence

Living with an artificial eye… what’s it actually like? This is one the things I forget people without artificial eyes have no idea about because it’s so normal for me! Everyone will have different experiences and I’ve definitely gone through periods where my eye is much more uncomfortable and of course then it is more in the forefront of my mind, but if everything is fitting well and the socket is healthy then I really don’t notice it at all! #retinoblastoma #artificialeye #lifeaftercancer #disabledstudent #childhoodcancer

If one finger makes a light split, smear, or starburst, that is not something to ignore. This quick at home check can reveal an early sign of keratoconus, a condition where the cornea thins and starts to bulge, causing distorted, unstable vision. A lot of people think their glasses prescription just keeps changing, when the real issue is something much more serious. The good news? If caught early, keratoconus can often be stopped with corneal cross linking before vision gets much worse.# So if the light looks weird when you do this test, do not spend 3 weeks Googling it.Book the appointment. Your corneas do not get a second chance. Send this to someone whose glasses prescription never seems to stabilize. #Keratoconus #EyeHealth #Cornea #CrossLinking

A prosthetic eye, or ocular prosthesis, is a non-functional artificial replacement used primarily to restore the natural appearance of an eye lost due to trauma, disease, or congenital conditions. It does not restore Vision Purpose and Benefits The main use of a prosthetic eye is to provide cosmetic and psychological rehabilitation. Benefits include: Restoring Appearance and Facial Symmetry: The prosthesis is custom-made and hand-painted by a specialist called an ocularist to match the remaining eye in color, size, and shape, which can make it very difficult to distinguish from a natural eye. Boosting Self-Confidence: A realistic appearance helps individuals regain self-esteem and confidence in social and professional interactions, significantly improving their quality of life. Maintaining Socket Health: The prosthesis fills the space left by the removed eye (which includes an underlying orbital implant) to maintain the shape of the eye socket and prevent the surrounding tissues and eyelids from deforming or shrinking. Protection: It protects the sensitive tissues within the eye socket from dust, debris, and infections. Aiding Child Development: In children born without an eye (anophthalmia) or with a very small one (microphthalmia), a series of increasingly larger conformers and prostheses are used to stimulate the normal growth and development of the eye socket and facial bones. Functionality and Movement A prosthetic eye is an acrylic (or sometimes glass) shell that fits over a surgically implanted ball (orbital implant) deep within the eye socket. While it will have some movement in sync with the natural eye, it will not have the full range of motion, and the pupil size does not change with light. Patients learn to turn their head more to compensate for the limited movement and loss of depth perception. Vision is not restored; the patient has monocular (one-sided) vision. Care and Maintenance Proper care is essential for comfort and longevity. Daily Care: The prosthesis should be handled minimally. It can be removed about once a month and washed with mild soap and warm water. Lubrication: Lubricating eye drops can be used over the shell

this is my first prosthetic, a matching eye. my ocularist that made it didn’t seem to want to entertain the idea of making me a #funeye especially since i was a bit skeptical with it being my first and only eye so i ended up with a realistic traditional eye for my first 7 months wearing a prosthesis. although a majority of people think my prosthetics are real there is no hiding that something is different, as you can see even with a “normal” prosthetic eye it doesn’t move the same way a real eye would and can still raise comments. with such a visible disability i might as well have fun with it! ❤︎ #prostheticeye #prosthesis #eyes #eye #oneeye #oneeyegang #beyou #fyp #fypシ
