Ive had a few similar questions and hope this helps to answer; I had an evisceration, which means the back part of my natural eye was left in place. An acrylic implant was then placed inside the socket, and the eye muscles were wrapped around that implant. This is what allows movement and gives the socket a fuller, more rounded appearance, even when I’m not wearing my prosthetic. My eye was very enlarged before surgery, which is why my implant is quite large. Because of that, the prosthetic that sits in front of it is very thin. When I’m not wearing it, it can look like there’s “almost an eye there,” just without the coloured part. Not everyone’s surgery is the same. Some people have the entire eye and muscles removed, often due to trauma or cancer, so their anatomy and movement may look different. My story is a little different, and I’ve shared more detail in a pinned post at the top of my page and in highlights if anyone wants to understand the journey more fully. Questions like this, asked with genuine curiosity and a desire to understand, are one of the reasons why I have this profile. Living with an artificial eye… what’s it actually like? This is one the things I forget people without artificial eyes have no idea about because it’s so normal for me! Some prosthetic eye lore for you guys. Prosthetic eyes are not meant to serve ones full lifetime. Your eye socket changes as you get older, meaning that the form and fit of the prosthetic eye must also be updated periodically. In this reel, I show you 2 of my traditional prosthetic eyes. One is the very first prosthetic eye that was made when I lost my eye to cancer when I was 6 years old, and the other is a more recent one. Both were made using different methods. I've had other shaped eyes as well, but those were donated to those in need as they were of no use to me anymore. Soon I will need to have a new impression taken, and the shape of my prosthetic will likely be a little different. This means if I want to keep rocking my self made Titanium eyes, I will have to remake them all over again.

Staphyloma is the term for a thinning of the sclera in which the underlying pigmented tissue then adds its color to the thinned sclera, giving an appearance of bluish to almost black color. It occur in the front of the eye mostly as a response to trauma or infection in which the scleral architecture has been disturbed and the internal pressure of the eye stretches the weak point causing the protrusion and typical appearance.#artificialeye #prostheticeye #rehabilitación #evisceration #lostconfidence

this is my first prosthetic, a matching eye. my ocularist that made it didn’t seem to want to entertain the idea of making me a #funeye especially since i was a bit skeptical with it being my first and only eye so i ended up with a realistic traditional eye for my first 7 months wearing a prosthesis. although a majority of people think my prosthetics are real there is no hiding that something is different, as you can see even with a “normal” prosthetic eye it doesn’t move the same way a real eye would and can still raise comments. with such a visible disability i might as well have fun with it! ❤︎ #prostheticeye #prosthesis #eyes #eye #oneeye #oneeyegang #beyou #fyp #fypシ
