I couldn’t believe it’s real for the price I paid… This vintage treasure made me do some investigations. I recently found two of those iconic Wassily chairs on market place for just 350€ each. The market price is around 1.500€. Therefore, I had trust issues with the seller and couldn’t believe they are original. This led me to a comprehensive research about the characteristics of authenticity for original Wassily Chairs. The chair is a very high qualitative piece of craftsmanship and material. Therefore: 1. The end of the tubes: if the tubes are welded and seamlessly finished, it’s probably original. It is a very complicated and expensive working step to weld and hard to copy. Cheap replicates mostly cut the tubes at the end and add caps to it. 2. The original design was made by Marcel Breuer in 1926. An idol of the Bauhaus era. There we’re actually three manufacturers, not two as mentioned in the video. The first was "THONET" but they are so rare now a days and the production quantities were so small that it’s often forgotten. The first industrial manufacturer was "GAVINA". THEY bought the production rights after World War Two and introduced the leather version. After bankruptcy in 1968 "KNOLL INTERNATIONAL" took over the license until today. 3. The screws are another indicator of authenticity. Both Gavina and Knoll used twelve black screws which hold the chair together. If you’re looking for a vintage Wassily chair keep these points in mind. 🔐 Save the video for later! Does something being iconic make it less special? This is something that I’ve been thinking about for a while now - when something becomes so popular and the common first discovery that sparks an interest it ends up everywhere there’s almost a bandwagoning effect, but as you get deeper into a hobby it’s hard not to push back against it as “boring” even if it was any entryway for yourself and this happens across furniture, clothing, watches, cars, and many others. With the B3 “Wassily” Chair and the Rolex Submariner I think both are in the same situation. Also let me know if you want more videos like this that are part history and part video essay in a way. . . . . . . #bauhaus #beigepalette #cozyhome #isamunoguchi #marcelbreuer #pierrejeanneret #knoll #vitra #jeanprouve #myknoll #designwithinreach #livingroominspo #bauhaus #miesvanderrohe #midcenturymodern #yoshitomonara #usmhaller #wassilychair #wassilykandisky #rolexsubmariner #watchcollection #vintagewatches #vintagewatch #watchenthusiast #womw #watchesofinstagram #hodinkee #14060

Sedile, schienale e braccioli in cuoio. #chair #vintagechair #vintagefurniture #vintagechair #interiordesign #interiorstyling #homedecor #cornersomyhome #slowliving #apartmenttherapy #somewhereiwouldliketolive #livingroominspiration #midcenturymodern #vintageinterior #midcentury #livingroomideas #design #interiordesign
