What fig variety are you growing right now? 🌱🍈 Everyone knows Brown Turkey… but these 3 deserve a spot too 👇 LSU Purple 💜 Super sweet like Celeste, but tougher in dry conditions and stays compact Italian Honey 🍯 Green outside, golden inside, smooth honey flavor and very reliable Violette de Bordeaux 🍓 Deep color, bold strawberry-like flavor, seriously rich Which one are you adding next? 👀👇 #figtree #growfood #homegarden #fruittrees #gardeningtips

This Fig Roxo has been sitting right next to my chicken coop… and I’ve been feeding it something simple 👀 Meanwhile, most trees are already leafing out right now… but look at these leaves 🔥🌱 Glossy, deep green, and strong. No fancy fertilizers. No complicated routine. Just chicken manure… and this is the result. 👉 Best time to fertilize figs is early spring This is when you want higher nitrogen to push strong vegetative growth. More growth = more branches More branches = more figs 👊 This is what happens when your soil is alive and your tree is fed right. A lot of people overcomplicate figs… but honestly, they just want: ✔️ Good feeding ✔️ Consistent watering ✔️ Time to establish If your fig leaves are looking light or dull… your feeding might be off. Straight from the coop to the pot 👊🌱 #profig #figseason #figtree #figsofinstagram #figs #organicfigs #rarefigs #organicfigs #freshfigs #profig

Grafting is a lot like following a recipe — the skills aren’t hard to learn, but there are key steps you need to follow to be successful. And like a recipe, there are many ways to get the same result. Through research and experience, this is the method that’s worked best for me 👇 Cleft graft (aka wedge graft) 🌿 Select a scion (cutting) from a compatible variety. Same species works best (apples to apples, figs to figs), and sometimes the same genus (stone fruits like peaches, plums, apricots, nectarines). For this technique, choose a scion equal to or slightly smaller in diameter than your rootstock. ✂️ Cut your rootstock where you want the new variety to start, then split it down the center 1–2 inches. 🔪 Shape your scion into a smooth, even wedge that comes to a point. 🎯 Insert the scion into the split so the cambium layers align. The cambium is the thin green layer just beneath the bark made of actively dividing cells—this is what allows the graft to fuse. If the cambium doesn’t touch, the graft will fail. 🔗 Secure the graft with a rubber grafting band (you can also use tape, string, zip ties, etc.). 🛡 Wrap the entire scion and union tightly with parafilm. I like to wrap the scion before inserting it to reduce movement and prevent it from drying out. If it dries out, the graft will likely fail. ☀️ In warm, sunny conditions, provide shade (aluminum foil works great). 👀 Over the next 2–6 weeks, monitor the graft and remove any growth below the union. If left, it can outcompete and cause the graft to fail. ⏳ Most grafts establish in about 3–6 weeks depending on variety and conditions. 🔗 link to my grafting tools in my bio If you have grafting tips, drop them below 👇 #figtree #grafting #backyardorchard #diy #gardening

My husband grew a brand new fig tree just from prunings. Figs are one of the easiest fruit trees to start from cuttings, and it’s a great way to grow your orchard without spending a lot of money. On our homestead we try to use everything — pruning fruit trees, feeding branches to the rabbits, using manure in the garden, and starting new plants from cuttings. When the system works together, things get a lot easier. We love growing figs and once you have one good tree, you can keep making more. #figtree #propagation #gardeningtips #homesteadlife #homesteading

This is how misinformation spreads on the internet 🤣 I’d just like to get confirmation from @themontydon himself that we should be less aggressive with our fig trees 🙈 #Figtree #gardening #planting #plantcare #coupleshumor
