Was brave and finally steeked my #majacardigan (without reinforcing 😅) Steeking is a technique to knit something in the round (creating a tube) and then cutting it to have a flat piece of fabric. It’s usually used for stranded colorwork or #fairisle which is easier to knit in the round than flat. It is a traditional technique used for generations in Shetland and Scandinavia. The reason why it does not unravel is mainly the wool, which (when not superwash treated) has a nice grip and slightly felts together. Also usually an extra number of stitches is cast on left and right from the cutting line and there are techniques to reinforce the fabric before cutting. A lot more can be found by searching for the term on Google or YouTube. Happy knitting 🤗 #steeking #knitting #colorwork #steekedcardigan #sweaterknitting #lopapeysa #handknitcardigan #yokesweater

I’d you don’t like purling - this video is for you! Or maybe you don’t like turning your work for a specific project, like a stranded colorwork piece that is knit flat. Knitting backwards can actually make those types of projects quicker to work once you get the hang of it. Now I actually LIKE purling, but I also like having different knitting techniques in my toolkit, which led me to learn how to knit backwards. Here’s how you do it: 1. Knit your RS row as normal, but do not turn at the end. Keep your yarn at the back of your work. 2. Insert your left needle into the back of the first stitch on your right needle, from left to right. 3. Wrap your working yarn counter clockwise over your left needle. In the video I used my hand to wrap the yarn but you can also use the “flick” method with your needle if that is comfortable to you. 4. Pass the stitch over the working yarn you just wrapped around the needle using the right needle, and drop the stitch off the left needle. Repeat steps 2-4 across the row. It takes a bit of practice to get your tension even, but doesn’t everything in knitting? 🧶 Knit your first colourwork chart! 👩‍🏫 I’ve had so many messages recently asking for videos on how to start your very first piece of colourwork. So- here is what I hope will be the first in a series of videos on getting into colourwork knitting. This video focuses on how to read a chart and add in a second yarn colour. It’s for knitting flat - colourwork in the round is the same principle but no purling, and you read the chart right to left throughout. Are there any other tutorials you’d like to see? 👇 THE COLORWORK HACK YOU DIDN’T SEE COMING It looks like stranded knitting. But it’s not. You’re just slipping stitches, and somehow, it turns into magic. Here’s how simple it really is 👇 On the first row of the new color, work: [k1, wyif sl1p] across the row. That’s all it takes to create those crisp little color bridges that look like complex colorwork while you’re only ever holding one strand. If you’ve ever wanted to try colorwork but felt intimidated by floats or tension, this one’s for you. It’s calm, rhythmic, and so satisfying to watch the texture appear. No charts. No tangles. Just one color at a time and a result that looks more advanced than it feels. Because sometimes, the most impressive stitches are the simplest ones. The kind that make you fall in love with your needles all over again. 💬 Just comment CHEATSHEET below and I’ll DM you my free Yarn Jargon Cheatsheets so you know exactly what abbreviations like “wyif” actually mean. (Make sure you’re following first so you receive my message.) 💫 Save this post so you can try it on your next swatch. You’ll want to come back to this one. #knitting #knitstitch #knittingpattern #knitpattern #knittingtips #knittingtutorial #howtoknit #knittingaddict #loveknitting #knitlife #knittersgonnaknit
