Denver just turned off and removed all 110 Flock license plate reader cameras across the city - and there’s nothing ready to replace them. Denver ended its Flock contract over privacy concerns and revelations the company could share data with federal immigration authorities. Hundreds of privately owned Flock cameras installed by homeowners associations and businesses will keep running, but police now need individual permission from each owner to access footage. Denver City Council is voting tonight on a replacement contract with Axon - but even if it passes, only 50 cameras will be installed, and not for several weeks. #Denver #Flock #Surveillance #ColoradoNews #Accountability

Flock cameras are in 49 states and used by 5000 law enforcement agencies. The data is collected by a private company and stored for at least 30 days and used to track people's movements. Flock is recording your vehicles movement in about 70+ spots in Medford. Can you guess where this one is? Flock wants to harvest your data and sell it. They have no qualms leaking it either as seen in various infractions. They are a leech on our community. #southernoregon #medfordoregon #flock

Flock cameras are facing a class action lawsuit in San Jose California. They may help fight crime but they are also tracking your movements, storing the information, and sharing it with government agencies. Your data and privacy are important and mass surveillance systems are chipping away at these rights #flock #data #privacy #reaction #lawyer

Across the street from this flock camera is Target and you’ll see the nest of cameras there too. That means exit 30 of i5 is more or less completely covered. That is my big take from looking at this all. Look at the map of the de cameras. Kawps put them at choke points and then harass their citizens. Kind of lame if you ask me. It’s like we are rats being watched. When did everyone get so scared? 🤣 #southernoregon #medfordoregon #flock

After years of controversy, Denver is removing its Flock surveillance cameras and switching to Axon. Mayor Johnston announced the change following months of privacy concerns. @spencersoicher published several investigations about the concerns that data was being shared with immigration authorities. Denver’s auditor refused to sign the Flock contract last year, citing legal risks and redacted documents, but the cameras kept running. The new Axon contract includes privacy protections: no federal access to data, can’t be used for immigration or abortion investigations, data kept only 21 days, and only Colorado agencies can access it. Axon is already Denver’s body camera vendor. The Flock contract expires in March. #Denver #Flock #Axon #Surveillance #Privacy

We’ve learned of 5 compromised Flock cameras connected to Colorado. One belongs to Douglas County, and the camera is located at an open space trailhead. #colorado #reels #politics #flock #fyp

Police in Commerce City are expanding use of drones, license plate readers, and ShotSpotter gunshot detection devices. The department’s new Real-Time Crime Center launched drones 391 times in March alone. ShotSpotter can detect gunshots, street racing, and car crashes, pulling up nearby cameras before anyone calls 911. Commerce City just approved a $4.5 million contract to expand the technology. Meanwhile Denver just shut down its entire Flock camera network over concerns about federal data sharing and privacy. Same technology. Two very different conclusions. #Colorado #police #Surveillance #Flock #Denver

Less than 24 hours after the Oshkosh Common Council approved the renewal of a contract to allow the city's police department to use Flock cameras, the council voted 7-0 to rescind that agreement. Oshkosh Police Chief Dean Smith said Flock did not provide accurate information the previous night about the cameras not collecting heat maps of travelers. Several council members who voted in favor of the Flock cameras at Tuesday's meeting apologized for their votes. Council member Paul Esslinger and Mayor Matt Mugerauer stood by their votes yesterday based on the information they had at the time, but voted to rescind the agreement based on the new information brought forth by Smith. Flock Safety sent FOX 11 this statement hours before the meeting: "It's incredibly disappointing to hear that statements made during last evening’s open meeting have been misinterpreted and weaponized by activists. We welcome the opportunity to clarify these points with the council before making any decisions that could limit Oshkosh’s access to a system that, just this week, played a key role in the capture of the Most Wanted murder suspect in Wisconsin."
