It has been a while since I shared a flower print. Chrysanthemums are so often overlooked I think, maybe because they are grown year-round in greenhouses across the world. I love the detail from this one and the white on black always adds a little drama I think. Associated with as loyalty, love, longevity, good luck and optimism. The petals are used in salads, soups, and tea, Chrysanthemum tea is believed to help reduce fever, improving eyesight, they have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. They are surprising significant in the cut flower industry often travelling many miles to reach us. With an annual output of 1.4 billion stems globally. Still can’t believe these prints come from real flowers and leaves 🌿 Eco printing is one of the most magical ways to capture the colours and details of nature directly onto fabric. No paint, no ink just the natural pigments inside the plants. If you want to try eco printing yourself, here are a few tips I’ve learned along the way: 🌿 Use fresh flowers and leaves – they release the best pigments 🌿 Choose natural fabrics like linen or cotton so the colour bonds properly 🌿 Hammer evenly and gently so the pigment transfers without damaging the fabric 🌿 Remove the flowers straight away leaving them too long can cause colours to bleed on fabric Please note: Store-bought fabrics often need pre-washing with soda crystals to remove coatings. For the best results, fabrics are usually treated with tannins and a mordant beforehand. I look at this piece everyday in our home and each time I do, I smile. It simply makes me happy. When we sourced/collected these flowers from @littlehollowflowers and @reddaisyfarm, we not only got the most beautiful blooms but we also got to meet the farmers, talk with them about the flowers, and simply have a nice conversation. That is why farmers markets are amazing, you walk away with healthy produce or beautiful, nurtured blooms, you support a small farm, and you meet new people and hear their stories. Love it. ✨Hammered Pansies and Viola flowers on handmade paper from @green_tailor . 🌼 🔨 ✨This paper was so fun to work on. It has nice absorption that helps to make clear, defined prints. Handmade papers, and watercolor paper are definitely my favorite to work on for this process. ✨Keep in mind all paper is very different…additives like sizing can affect the final outcome of your prints. I just can’t stop making these flower prints. They are so much fun to make and they are getting better I think. In this print Chrysanthemums were turned into Daisies 😂 but I love the end result. The details and colors worked out so well! I might frame this one! 🖼️🌼 * For this print I used my 8”x10” @gelliarts gel printing plate and @araacrylics * I added a few drops of slow dry medium (Ara) in the first layer * I let every layer dry before adding a new layer * The paper is 300gr Bristol * I left the paper on the plate until everything was completely dry * I turned the whole package over and peeled the plate from the paper instead of the paper from the plate to keep it flat and avoid folds/wrinkles Thanks so much for stopping by! The background noise had to stay. 💜🌸👚 We printed these flowers with multi colored cosmos! we tried with a poppy the color didn't work as much, so maybe stick with only cosmos. Here's how we did it: -2 teaspoons of alum powder -1 gal warm water - 100% cotton shirts (pre washed and dried) - cosmos - hammer - packing tape dissolve 2 tsp. of alum powder in 1 gal of warm water and let cotton shirts soak in water for 1 hour. Wring out shirts and let air dry. (Do not wash). Place flowers upside down on shirts and tape down. Hammer the petals as much as you can and only hammer the center slightly. Peel off and that’s it! The alum powder is suppose to make the prints stay longer after washing. we haven’t washed ours yet but I will let you know how well our prints stay on! #flowerprinting #tshirtcraft #tshirtflower #naturaldyeing #summercraft
