Stonefly (ish) imitation. Size 16. Do you leave experimenting to the professionals? At the end of a tying session I had some Hare's ear left over and a picture of a stone fly was on my computer screen. It occurred to me a lot of the imitations aren't lighter underneath like a lot of actual larvae. It may or may not catch but the creative element of tying flies I find very enjoyable and is often overlooked and is just a means to an end. Most of the components to this fly are from a ringtail pheasant skin. I used a sproat nymph hook and 70 denier black thread. I designed it with a submerging mayfly in mind, utilizing blue wire as not only weight, but an attractor pattern. #flytying #flyfishing #fishing #photography #troutbum

Today’s tie is the trusty pats rubber legs. With flows starting to rise around here, this fly will be kept within arms reach.
