These two fossa pups are just a few weeks shy of being 6 months old! As we watch them develop, we can't believe how much they've grown since those first few intense weeks of hand-rearing at the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens. Fossa pups in the wild separate from their mother after about 1-2 years, breaking off from their sibling groups to live solitary lives as they become more fiercely territorial. Mahery & Anansi's mom didn't possess the natural maternal instinct to take care of them, so our teams stepped in. For now, these sisters are happy to explore (& nap) side by side. A baby fossa is an adorable little mammal native to Madagascar, often mistaken for a mix between a cat and a mongoose — though it’s actually in a family of its own! Born tiny and blind, fossa pups depend entirely on their mother for warmth, food, and protection. As they grow, their playful curiosity helps them learn vital survival skills. Meet Basil, a brave little soul who has recently begun his journey of healing and hope. Just a few weeks ago, he was known as “No Name,” a reflection of the neglect he endured in his previous life. Rescued from dire living conditions, Basil spent his early days outside, surrounded by filth and isolation. At just ten months old, he faced a world that had given him little kindness; he had no name, dry skin, and a disheveled coat. Without vaccinations and slightly malnourished, he was in desperate need of love and care. Upon his arrival at CuppaPug in Manchester, it became clear that Basil was struggling. His initial introduction to his twin brother didn’t go well, leading to his journey to London, where hope awaited him. In this new environment, Basil was incredibly anxious and fearful, refusing even the simplest gesture of kindness—a treat offered in friendship. However, amidst the challenges, Basil has shown a remarkable resilience. He thrives in the company of other dogs, and slowly but surely, he’s beginning to warm up to the humans around him. With gentle encouragement, he is learning to play and engage, discovering the joy of companionship. To help him feel safe, we’ve welcomed him into our bedroom, understanding that he still believes he needs to sleep outside. This small act of kindness is part of our commitment to help him settle and understand that he is now in a loving, safe space. As soon as Basil is neutered, we’ll carefully choose the perfect home for him. He deserves a family that will cherish him and help him continue to blossom. The sooner he finds his forever home, the better, and we can’t wait to see him thrive in a loving environment. Basil’s journey is just beginning, and with each passing day, he is learning what it means to be loved. 💖

Das ist Flocki - er kommt aus Rumänien und sucht ein neues Zuhause. Er ist circa 2 Jahre alt und ich habe ihn in einem sehr verwahrlosten Zustand in einem Hinterhof entdeckt. Er war dort angebunden mit einem kurzen Stück Gurtband an einem Pflock. Viel zu wenig Raum und inmitten von Müll und Unrat, musste dieser Hund sein Leben verbringen. Nach kurzer Absprache mit den Besitzern durften wir ihn mitnehmen. Er war ihnen echt egal… er wurde mittlerweile kastriert und zeigte sich bereits am nächsten Tag zutraulicher 🧡 Ich wünsche mir für Flocki ein Zuhause in Deutschland, am besten auch in meiner Nähe (in NRW) damit ich ihn noch ein bisschen begleiten kann. Falls ihr euch vorstellen könnt, ihm ein Zuhause zu geben, schreibt mir! Auf meiner Reise nach Rumänen bin ich auch noch Bärchen begegnet, den stelle ich euch in den nächsten Tagen vor!
