Be Someone's... trusted advisor...buddy...guide...MENTOR! Become a mentor to a teen in foster care. We have 15 openings for winter and spring. Training sessions begin in early February. Foster Progress mentors meet a few times each month to support students through college applications, financial aid, and the transition to adulthood. Surrounded by community partners and longtime supporters, we recently celebrated the opening of Foster Village’s North Austin Resource Center with a ribbon-cutting! Over the past ten years of our mission, we’ve seen families continue to need more access to support in North Austin. This space exists to help meet that need — offering steady, practical resources and connection for families navigating foster care. We’re grateful for leaders like Judge Aurora Martinez-Jones, DFPS Commissioner, Audrey O’Neill, Council Member Krista Laine, and all those who gathered to celebrate this moment with us. What happens after you’re recommended to adopt a child? In Florida’s foster care system, that recommendation isn’t always the end. Disputes, hearings, and appeals can sometimes extend uncertainty for months, even years, while a child waits. One challenge is simple: we don’t consistently track contested adoptions or how long they take to resolve. We can’t improve what we don’t measure.
