The Gene That Helps Protect Us From Cancer

Inside your body
3,050,523

The Gene That Helps Protect Us From Cancer Inside your body is a powerful tumor-suppressor gene called p53. Its job is to monitor damaged cells and either repair them or trigger them to self-destruct before they turn into cancer. It’s sometimes called the “guardian of the genome.” Interestingly, elephants have many more copies of the p53 gene than humans. Scientists believe this is one reason elephants have unusually low cancer rates despite their large body size and long lifespan. Researchers continue to study how different infections, environmental factors, and cellular stress can influence pathways connected to p53. Understanding these mechanisms helps scientists learn more about cancer prevention and immune responses. The takeaway: Your body already has powerful defense systems — and modern research is still uncovering how they work. 🧬 What is a Codon? A codon is a sequence of 3 nucleotides (bases) on mRNA that codes for a specific amino acid or a signal during protein synthesis. 👉 Example: AUG → codes for Methionine (also the start codon) 🔑 Key Features of Codons Triplet code → 3 bases = 1 codon Found on mRNA Read in a 5' → 3' direction Total possible codons = 64 61 code for amino acids 3 are stop codons ⛔ Stop Codons (from your image) These do NOT code for any amino acid. They signal the end of protein synthesis. UAA → “U Are Annoying” UGA → “U Go Away” UAG → “U Are Gone” 👉 When ribosome reaches any of these → translation stops #genetics #biology #stemgirls

PSL ratings + Ascend with @psl.app Dove Cameron was born on January 15, 1996 in Bainbridge Island, Washington and later built her career in Los Angeles where she works as an actress and pop singer known for television, films and music. She first rose to major fame through the Disney Channel series Liv and Maddie where she played dual roles and quickly gained a massive young fanbase across the United States and Europe. Her global popularity expanded when she starred as Mal in the Descendants film franchise, introducing her to an international audience and turning her into a major Gen Z pop culture figure. She later reinvented her image through darker pop music, viral songs and high fashion appearances, evolving from Disney star into a modern pop artist with strong social media influence. She is especially popular in the US and European countries because her career blends acting, music, fashion and internet culture, making her relatable to younger audiences while staying relevant in mainstream entertainment.Online discussions often compare her early Disney era appearance with her current aesthetic and highlight changes in makeup, hairstyling, fashion and natural maturation over time, however no cosmetic surgery procedures have been publicly confirmed by her and most before and after conversations remain speculation. Her transformation is commonly attributed to professional makeup artistry, lighting, camera techniques, fitness changes, evolving beauty trends and natural genetics including facial structure, eye shape and bone symmetry. Her modern look is defined by bold brows, dramatic eye makeup, fuller lips and editorial styling that create a more mature and edgy pop star image that resonates strongly with American and European audiences. #dovecameron #genetics #surgery #facecard #fyp

The Mystery of Hair Whorls

The Mystery of Hair Whorls #science #hairstyles #genetics I met these researchers at an Ig Nobel Prize event in Paris, where they won an award for their paper “enetic determinism and hemispheric influence in hair whorl formation.” They had studied babies/twins in Paris + Santiago, Chile and found some interesting patterns, but I felt like a much bigger pool of data might help point toward an answer. So l made a super short survey in my Linktree. My thought is that if enough of us fill it out, we might be able to save them the tremendous amount of time and money it would take to gather this kind of global data the traditional way.
