Greta Garbo in a screen test for the planned film “The Duchess Of Langelais”, which was never made. The test was photographed by Joseph Valentine in May 1949. Garbo signed a contract in 1948 with producer Walter Wanger, who had produced her film Queen Christina, to shoot a picture based on Balzac's La Duchesse de Langeais. She made several screen tests, learned the script, and arrived in Rome in the summer of 1949 to shoot the picture. However, the financing failed to materialize, and the project was abandoned. Ingrid Bergman. Born and died today, August 29, 1915 –August 29, 1982. Ingrid made a film in Sweden called Intermezzo in 1936. In 1939, she remade the film in the US with producer David O. Selznick. Davis hired Gregg Toland to take over the photography of the remake. David asked Toland, “How it was possible that Ingrid Bergman looked so beautiful in the original European production and so ghastly in his Hollywood version” Toland replied, “In Sweden they don’t make her wear all that makeup.” In this screen test you can see she only has on lipstick. A Holocaust survivor, Dr. Edith Eger lived a life that transformed unimaginable pain into purpose, touching millions through her wisdom, resilience, and belief in healing. Dr. Eger has passed at 98, and while we grieve, our hearts are full—overflowing with gratitude for the light she shared and the lives she transformed.
