Starting seeds indoors? That soil choice really matters. Regular potting soil is great for outdoor pots and raised beds, but it’s just too heavy for little seeds getting started. Those tiny roots need a lighter, fluffier mix. That’s why we use Pro-Mix and Baccto—they’re trusted standards in the nursery world. If you’ve got several garden projects planned this season, picking up a bale will have you set from the start. See you at Quinn’s 🌱💚

Hi friends! Happy Seedling Saturday! 🌱💚 Today I’m sharing my 4 go-to essentials that make starting plants from seed manageable and boost success. These are the things I rely on every season! 1️⃣ A dedicated grow station — Skip the windowsill if you can. A simple shelf or baker’s rack with grow lights (I zip-tie mine on) and heat mats underneath gives consistent warmth + light. It’s the easiest way to care for seedlings, get great germination, and avoid those leggy disasters! 2️⃣ Clean, sterilized seed trays — Invest in good reusable trays you can wash season after season. I run mine through the dishwasher at the end of each growing season to kill off pathogens and fungus gnat larvae. (I’ve tried soil blocks and paper grids too, but for ease and reuse, quality trays win for me!) 3️⃣ A solid organic seed-starting mix — I use a high-quality base and tweak it: 9 parts seed starting mix + 1 part worm castings (for gentle nutrients) + about 1 teaspoon BT granules to prevent fungus gnats before they start. Healthy soil = happy seedlings! 4️⃣ Read the seed packet! Knowledge is power. Most packets tell you exactly what the seeds need—light or darkness for germination, depth, temps, etc. The more you learn about each plant (native habits, warm vs. cool season, light needs), the better your results get. Until next week… happy growing, friends! 🌿✨ Drop your favorite seed-starting tip below—I’d love to hear it! #SeedlingSaturday #SeedStarting #GrowFromSeed #IndoorGardening #GardeningTips

Seed starting made EASY 🌱✨ Starting seeds indoors doesn’t have to be complicated. Follow these simple steps for strong roots and happy sprouts: ✔️ Sift potting mix to fluff soil → healthier roots ✔️ Pre-moisten soil → avoids dry, hydrophobic soil ✔️ Tap trays gently → removes air pockets and improves seed-to-soil contact ✔️ Use a humidity cover → regulates heat and moisture (remove after germination!) 👉Pro-tip: start seeds in aluminum lasagne trays that come with lids! Bonus Tips 🌿 • Bottom water cells for best results 💦 • Bottom heat works great for warm-weather plants like tomatoes, peppers & cucumbers 🌞 • Lightly cover seeds with soil (bigger seeds = plant deeper) 💡 Want more seed-starting tips? 🚨 Seed-Starting Solutions! 🚨 Are your seedlings off to a rough start? 🌿 Most seed-starting problems are fixable. Once you know what to look for, most problems are easy to fix! ❤️ Save this to reference all seed-starting season! ‼️ Leggy seedlings? → Not enough light ✅ Move grow lights 2–4 inches above seedlings, use a fan to strengthen stems, and repot deeper for support. ‼️ Slow or no germination? → Soil too cold or old seeds ✅ Use a heat mat (most seeds: 70–85°F) and check the “packed for” date on seed packets. ‼️ Purple stems? → Cold temps or limited phosphorus uptake (purple stems can be normal for some varieties) ✅ Keep temperatures stable and, if needed, use bone meal or a balanced fertilizer. ‼️ Yellow leaves? → Nitrogen deficiency or overwatering ✅ Let soil dry slightly between watering and feed with diluted fish emulsion or compost tea. ‼️ Small or distorted leaves? → Micronutrient imbalance or pests ✅ Use seaweed fertilizer and check closely for aphids or thrips. ‼️ Brown or yellow spots? → Inconsistent watering, poor airflow, or nutrient issues ✅ Improve airflow and drainage, keep soil evenly moist, and add an organic calcium source if needed. ‼️ Mold on soil? → Too much moisture + poor airflow ✅ Use a fan, bottom-water, and lightly sprinkle vermiculite on the surface. ‼️ Seedlings falling over? → Damping-off disease (from excess moisture) ✅ Improve airflow, avoid overwatering, and always use sterile seed-starting mix. ‼️ Leaves turning white? → Light shock or sunburn ✅ Make sure leaves aren’t touching grow lights and harden off seedlings gradually. ‼️ Curling or wilting leaves? → Underwatering, heat stress, or nutrient imbalance ✅ Water consistently and use a balanced fertilizer. 💫Follow along for more gardening support all season long! ****************** #seedstarting #startingseeds #garden
