When drama is your first line of defense. 🎥 from @semaskovish Meet the frilled-neck lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii), a reptile that looks like it ran straight out of a Jurassic Park movie. Native to northern Australia and parts of Papua New Guinea, this tree-dwelling lizard can grow up to 3 feet long (about 90 cm), with most of that being tail. Its claim to fame? That dramatic frill of skin around its neck. When threatened, it fans it out, opens its jaws wide, and bolts upright on two legs. Like a tiny dinosaur doing cardio. Despite the theatrics, it’s not aggressive. The frill is all bark, no bite; a bluff to scare off predators like snakes and birds of prey (or humans, I suppose). A beautiful Thai flying dragon (Draco taeniopterus) found in southern Thailand with @evankirincich last year. This is a lizard species I really wanted to find visiting Southeast Asia and if you were curious, they really can fly! Perhaps glide is a better word, but these wings aren’t just for looks. This species will often jump from tree to tree using these wings to glide across, similar to a flying squirrel. A cauda grossa parece uma segunda cabeça. É estratégia pra confundir ataques: o predador morde o lugar errado e ele foge. 3. São lentos e blindados. As escamas parecem telhas, por isso o nome “shingleback”. A armadura aguenta mordida de cobra. 4. Vivem até 30 anos e são monogâmicos. Casais ficam juntos por décadas e voltam pro mesmo parceiro todo ano pra acasalar. 5. Onívoros tranquilos: comem flores, frutas, caracóis e insetos. A mordida é forte, mas só usam se forem muito provocados. 6. Quando ameaçados, abrem a boca rosa, mostram a língua azul e assopram alto. É tudo teatro pra parecer maior e perigoso. 7.
