I am Incredibly honoured to have spoken at the Govies Gala at Katherine YMCA on Friday 14th November. Not only was I able to share an important message about loneliness in the bush, I wash able to be apart of creating this special event. Events take a village to build and being apart of a wonderful committee makes its even better. The Govies Gala Raised $65,000 for Katherine Isolated Children’s Services (KICS), a traveling playgroup bringing connection, play and education to the kids in rural and remote communities across Northern Australia. Here is a key piece of my speech that I believe is an important message for all: Loneliness. You can be surrounded by people at work, in town, even here tonight and still feel completely alone. Around 1 in 3 adults say they regularly feel lonely, and studies show loneliness can have the same health impact as smoking fifteen cigarettes a day. But here’s the part we don’t talk about enough. So many of us have learned to mask that loneliness with resilience. The ‘I’m fine.’ The ‘She’s strong.’ The ‘He’s always got a smile on his face.’ We’ve built our identity around appearing okay. Because somewhere along the way, we were taught that struggling quietly makes us strong. She’s the best 🥰 My govies have turned into some of the women I care most about, and until you’ve experienced it for yourself, from either side of the scale you’ll never truly know how strong the bond is. These women become part of your family, they love and care for your kids, and nurture them as they learn and grow. They’re on hand to wipe away tears when you can’t, and they know exactly what makes those little humans tick. It’s a different kind of working relationship, because you share the load side by side every day (and sometimes night). I’ll be forever grateful for the beautiful ladies I’ve had and continue to have. You know who you are 🥰🥰🥰🥰
