💙 grimms x ikea trofast 💙 I first shared this little trofast hack about a year ago now and I still get lots of questions about how we made it work. Here’s a bit of a rundown - hopefully this makes sense! This basically came about because we were constantly tripping over Grimms block sets in the playroom (I’m looking at you, LSP!). So we came up with this way of getting the trays off the floor - opening up lots more floor space for play. Win! What we did: Essentially we needed to change the @ikea_australia trofast unit from having the 3 sections for tubs, to having just 2 sections to fit the @grimmswoodentoys block sets side-by-side. So, we switched out the two vertical central panels of the trofast, and replaced them with one central piece of ply wood. This became the new centre divider, straight down the middle of the unit. This piece of plywood needs to be between 10-12mm in order for the block sets to fit side-by-side (we used 12mm). To fix this in place we used the existing pieces of dowel from the trofast unit, but needed to drill two new holes in the top panel and two holes in the bottom panel of the structure. The next step is to drill matching holes in the top and bottom of the plywood sheet - for the dowel to slot in. Just line it up and mark where to drill. Then it slots together the same way the original trofast does. Once that’s done, it’s time to make the “tracks” for the block sets to slide in and out on. For this we used 12mm square dowel (sold as “dressed timber - square clear pine” if you’re buying from Bunnings). This is sold in long lengths (2.4m) so you need to cut pieces to the same length as the depth of the unit (44cm). For our set up (to fit 4 standard block trays and 2 LSPs at the bottom) we needed 8 lengths of 44cm. It’s then just a matter of measuring where you want your trays to go and get to screwing in the timber tracks! I have absolutely no idea if that made sense - if you’re confused, dm me 😂 Then I can confuse you some more, but one-on-one 🤪😆

I seriously almost bought Grimm’s large step pyramid new for $200 for Auggie’s birthday last week. Glad I waited because I found it for $80 on Facebook Marketplace today. Can’t believe I actually manifested it. And what’s even sweeter? The seller said this was her kid’s favorite toy. My not sponsored review of @grimmswoodentoys My baby was a few months old when the pandemic hit and it seemed to bring in a wave of content creators that made me feel like I needed every single wooden toy to line my shelves😬 I definitely overdid it and didn’t follow my child’s lead, rather I purchased toys for their aesthetic eeeek🫣🫣 I think Grimms toys are so wonderful and made beautifully! So many open ended play to be had with them! I also think looking back on the 5 years that I collected them, less is definitely more! My 2nd child has been way more into them and also inspired my older child to be more interested in them as well! It’s hard to be a wooden block among other fancy fun toys. It’s no fault of the Grimms toys that they aren’t played with that much. They definitely align with Waldorf values when it comes to choosing suitable toys. But Grimms is not synonymous with Waldorf. They are made of wood which is warm to the touch, open ended and beautiful. That checks the Waldorf boxes! All that being said, all the wooden blocks at the Waldorf school I worked at were not brand name blocks! They were also not colorful! So don’t get sucked into thinking you NEED Grimms blocks to give your children a Waldorf childhood!♥️♥️ I should probably make a separate video of which specific Grimms toys I would repurchase. IYKYK GRIMMS EDITION Is this a hack? Talk about excited to see something so non-play related! I did a little giddy dance and crossed all my fingers and toes that the measurements would translate 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 Moving them blocksets for play or pack away is challenging for my kids as they are heavy and their width adds to the difficulty level. Finding the right sized dolly has been on my “watch” list for ages.
