I spent over £100 on wooden blocks for my 2 year old. And here’s the verdict… We’re not new to open-ended play here, but we are new to investing in higher quality pieces like Grimms & Grapat. And I won’t sugarcoat it… they are expensive. All I see are the perfectly curated shelves on here and think I needed everything straight away, but the reality is, that’s just not realistic for most of us. So we tried the cheaper alternatives first… and honestly, I regret not just saving and investing in the originals from the start. The quality is completely different. Natural wood, soft textures, non-toxic dyes and most importantly, they’re designed to be used in endless ways. Even just in this video, you can see how many endless ways ny 2 year old has used them: storytelling, building, knocking down, creating little worlds… It’s not about the toy, it’s about what it allows them to do 🤍 Watching her imagination and curiosity flourish like this has been the biggest reminder… simple really is enough. Going forward, I don’t feel the need to keep adding more toys to her stuff and will definitely not be allowing people to buy just random toys for Marlow. We’ll just go deeper with what she already loves! Open-ended toys, her mud kitchen, magnetiles, animal figurines… things that actually invite play, not limit it.
