The internet doesn’t want me to tell you this, but how your house is decorated, whether not you have matching glassware or chairs, or marble countertops in your kitchen is the LEAST IMPORTANT THING about hosting a party. Your house may be smaller or have cabinets you aren’t proud of (the paint may be peeling and they’re too old to save like mine), you may have projects that are unfinished or simply can’t afford to redecorate, but you know what is so much more important than all of that? How we make our guests ✨feel✨ in our home. 🥹 The things we should prioritize when we host to help our guests feel welcome and cared for are: ✨ Making a timeline and delegating tasks the morning of the party so your hosting partner can help you prep and host without asking you a million questions 🙈 ✨Making sure each guest is personally welcomed and offered drinks by you or your hosting partner ✨ Setting up ~1-2 gathering areas for people to mingle (usually around appetizers and drinks and in the living room next to couches) ✨Playing music (it sets the mood!) ✨Accommodating food allergies and preferences as much as possible ✨ Not making such complicated dishes that you’re trapped in the kitchen all night ✨ Setting up 1-2 areas that feel special (tablecloths + fresh flowers + candles) In all my years of hosting experience, the gatherings that have felt the most special are definitely the ones where we connected over good food, regardless of how nice the host’s home was.
