Every hitter wants to hit the ball harder & hit with more power. Exit velocity is a metric that hitters today are evaluated on. You need to be able to hit the ball hard to play at the next level. BUT, the way many hitters go about developing it is counterproductive where hit tool ability is compromised + power gains plateau bc technique is poor. Swinging harder is not how to actually do it. It’s about learning how to CRACK THE WHIP, which is effortless power. The hitters that know how to do that are the ones where the ball has a different sound off the bat. CONSISTENTLY hitting the ball hard effortlessly where it’s pitched with a GAME READY swing is what you should be focused on. Not chasing numbers. BUCKET DRILL 🪣 Catchers generally spend lots of time working on framing low pitches as well as inside/outside pitches, but it's important to not neglect work on top-of-the-zone framing. Old school pitching philosophy has typically favored pitching down in the zone. While I believe this strategy will always be useful, new school strategies have emerged with more power pitchers utilizing high spin 4 seam fastballs up in the zone. As a result, today's catchers need to be prepared to present low fastballs well while still being able to get on top of a high fastball. Depending on a pitcher's arsenal, that might mean using a pre pitch glove drop that doesn't go all the way to the ground. Regardless, the key to success is anticipation and speed ⚡️ The bucket drill creates a physical objective that forces the catcher to create glove direction getting the pocket over the high fastball and quickly moving it down towards the middle. Good framing should never be about deception, but rather, presentation. Keep strikes as strikes and make the pitcher look good. ... Develop. Impact. This is by far the easiest (and cheapest) way to clean up your pitching mechanics. All you need is a $3 PVC pipe. We use this drill to: ✅ Rotate on time ✅ Get the arm flipped up properly ✅ Create rhythm between upper & lower half Once you feel it with the PVC, move on to a @squidthrow (squid throw) or towel drill.
