If you haven’t seen the whole documentary at least watch this episode on their training. Their mat drills were wild. This clip is pretty tame. There is a constant disagreement between some trainers/strength coaches on the benefit or need of mental toughness training. Should it be a thing? Does it work? Is the health and potential injury to the player worth the team camaraderie and mental toughness gained? Does this training even get the players stronger? If implemented, how often? For the elite of the elite their body can usually withstand this type of punishment. But for most it will break them. Very similar to a Bulgarian method of Olympic weight training. High intensity and high volume. The ones that make it through are great, but it breaks everyone else. It’s a fine line to walk and if implemented the whole staff has got to be in sync. I personally think there is a better way. Plus the modern athlete is different. Especially with NIL money I think you won’t see much of this training anymore.
